Birthday Party Tips – throwing a birthday party does not have to be hard or a huge process. Keep it simple with these 5 tips to throw a great party at any age!
Do you throw birthday parties for your kids, friends or family members? Or do you know throw them because of the work involved? I will admit, I think I talked my son out of a birthday party last year because I didn’t want to go through the hassle of a party. Well, times have changed. I have come up with these 5 time birthday party tips to make throwing a party easy or any age. You can throw a 40th birthday party for a 10th birthday party, up to you! It is all about planning, making it easy, and having a few store bought tricks up your sleeve.
Every party needs a theme, right? NO! It doesn’t have to have a specific theme. Kids often times will want their favorite cartoon or sport or musician, which is perfectly fine, but if they can’t decide that is fine too. Or if you are throwing a party for your husband, you don’t need a theme. They make all those 40th, 50th, etc birthday decorations, but you don’t need those. And you can throw a 42nd birthday if you want, you don’t have to wait for the milestones. If I am using a theme, I like to pick a few things to focus on, and not go over the top. That is what makes it hard. My son is a sports nut, so picking plates and napkins is easy. Then I can do a couple decorations, but that is it. You don’t have to have every single part of the party scream sports. Use that blue table cloth you have in the closet, and that generic Happy Birthday banner, no one will care! Plus it is easier to use what you have, then try to search out everything to match.
Electronic Invites. Use them. I love using the free electronic sites for inviting someone to something. They make it so easy!! You just pick the invitation you want, and put in the email addresses, they do the rest. The keep track of who is coming, send a reminder to them if the haven’t rsvp’d, send a reminder of the party etc. So much easier that having to mail the, or have your child hand out invites to kids, and then hope you can track down who is coming. And some of them will even send a thank you message after the party, so you don’t have to feel guilty about being slow with thank you cards! There are so many different themes to pick from the invites as well, and if they don’t have that Pokemon invite you are looking for, they have generic invites you can send as well.
I like to get as much as I can done ahead of time. This means everything from the menu to decoration to games. When I am planning the party, I like to pick a time that isn’t over a meal time. That way I can just have snacks and don’t need to come up with a full menu. The food you will serve will depend on the guest of honor and the age. For kids, simple snacks are always a hit – a few carrots sticks with ranch for dipping, a snack mix or chips, and then fruit set out is all you need. You can everything ahead of time, and just cut up apple slices or wash grapes before the kids get there. So easy, and no stress!! For adults, you might want a little more. But pick dips or appetizers you can make a head. Cold dips are great, or hot dips you can make and just heat in the crock pot are perfect. People come to a party to celebrate, not critique the food or the decorations. If you are having games for a kids party, have your kids play them ahead of time, so you can know how long they will take. That way you don’t end up with tons of extra time to fill. If you are getting balloons – call or go in and order them the week before. Then you just have to pick them up the day of.
Set Up –
Setting up for a party can either be really fun, or daunting and too much work. I vote for fun! And to me, that means simple and easy. Just a few decorations are all that is necessary. Once everyone arrives, people don’t pay much attention to them. If you are having a meal, getting the table set or buffet set up ahead of time makes things go smoothly. Before the guests arrive, have an area for gifts set up. Even if you say no gifts, a few people always show up with them anyway. If you are giving out party favors, have them at a table near the door, so you remember to hand them out as people leave. Have music on when people arrive, so it isn’t silent, it will get people talking. Have your camera out and ready! I always mean to take pictures and then forgot. So having it out, and taking pictures of guests as they arrive makes sure you remember.
