  • Sugar
  • Water
  • Blueberries – You can use fresh or frozen blueberries. Set frozen blueberries aside on the counter while you gather the rest of your tools and ingredients, and they should thaw enough to muddle.
  • Mint
  • Tequila
  • Lime Juice – You can’t beat the flavor of freshly squeezed lime juice, especially if you’re only making a few drinks. If you’re planning on mixing up a pitcher, I suggest buying 100% lime juice from the refrigerated section of the grocery store.

How To Make Blueberry Margaritas

  • Prepare Simple Syrup. In a small saucepan, combine sugar and water. Bring the mixture to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes. Once done, pour the mixture into a jar and chill.
  • Muddle Blueberries and Mint. Muddle fresh blueberries and mint leaves in a pitcher or glass until most of the berries burst. Add lime juice, tequila, and the chilled simple syrup mixture.
  • Serve Over Ice. Pour the blueberry margarita mixture over ice cubes in glasses for a refreshing chill.
  • (Optional) Salt Rim. For an extra touch, line the rim of each glass with salt. Rub a lime wedge around the glass’s rim, then dip it in kosher salt to coat.
  • Garnish and Serve. Thread additional blueberries onto toothpicks or skewers and garnish each glass before serving to add a decorative touch.

Recipe Tips & Tricks

  • Make Ahead Simple Syrup. Prepare the simple syrup in advance and store it in the refrigerator for up to a week, ensuring you have a sweetening agent ready whenever the craving for blueberry margaritas strikes.
  • Adjust Sweetness to Taste. Tailor the sweetness of your margaritas by adjusting the amount of simple syrup added to suit your preference.
  • Try Different Tequila Varieties. Explore different types of tequila, such as Blanco, Reposado, or Añejo, to discover how each imparts its unique flavor profile to your margaritas.
  • Get Creative with Garnishes. Try adding lime wedges, additional blueberries, or even sprigs of fresh mint to your glasses to elevate the visual appeal of your margaritas.
  • Rim Variation. Experiment with different rim coatings by using coarse sugar, flavored salts, or even crushed freeze-dried blueberries for a unique and flavorful twist on the classic salt rim.
  • Frozen Option. Blend all the ingredients with ice cubes for a frosty and slushy variation, perfect for hot summer days or tropical-themed gatherings.
Can I Use Frozen Blueberries?

Yes, frozen blueberries can be used as a convenient alternative. Allow them to thaw slightly before muddling to release their juices.

What Kind Of Tequila Works Best?

Blanco or silver tequila is commonly used for its clean and crisp flavor, allowing the blueberries and mint to shine. However, feel free to experiment with reposado or añejo for added complexity.

How Long Can You Store Blueberry Margaritas?

The mixed margarita ingredients can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours before serving. Just be sure to give it a quick stir before pouring over ice.

Can I Make These Without Alcohol?

Absolutely! Simply swap the tequila for club soda or sparkling water. This way, you’ll still have a delicious non-alcoholic version of the blueberry margarita, perfect for guests of all ages to enjoy.
