Greek Meatball Sandwiches

Greek Meatball Sandwich – get all the flavor of classic Gyros with these Greek Meatballs turned into a sandwich. Topped with Tzatziki sauce and absolutely delicious.

Gyros are one of my favorite meals. We have a Greek place nearby and I could probably eat there at least once a week. But it can be intimidating to make it at home. Traditional gyros use lamb, which can be hard to come by and expensive most places in the United States.

So we are using ground beef, making Greek flavored meatballs and turning into a little mini gyro sandwich!

If you have ever tried a traditional gyro with lamb, you know how tender and juicy they are. But lamb at the grocery store is expensive. The few times I have seen it, it has been over $12 a pound. So it isn’t something you are going to purchase often. Ground Beef makes a great sub, so don’t worry, adding the spices gives this a lot of the same flavor. But if you have access to lamb, you can definitely use it here!

How To Make Greek Meatball Sandwiches

  1. Make the meatballs by adding all of the ingredients to a bowl and mixing until they are well blended. I like to use a cookie scoop to scoop the meatballs, so I they are all the same size. Then just roll and bake until they are cooked through.
  2. To make the sauce you start by grating the cucumber and squeezing out the liquid. Then mix it together with the rest of the ingredients and store in the fridge until you are ready to use.
  3. Once the meatballs are cooked you just assemble your sandwich. Warm pitas in the microwave and then top with meatballs, sauce, diced tomatoes, red onion, feta, and maybe chopped lettuce.
