Indian Butter Chicken

Indian Butter Chicken

Over the past few years Indian food has become a favorite of mine.  If you are a regular here, this will come as no surprise to you.  I make it at our house once every two weeks at least.  We have a local Indian restaurant that we like, but have only gone for dinner so far.  At lunch they have a buffet, I am dying to go to the buffet, so I can try more things!

Indian Butter Chicken

One of our favorite dishes is Indian Butter Chicken.  I usually use a spice packet, so the work is minimal.  But I have really been wanting to try it from scratch.  I even had it on my Culinary Bucket List I shared with you.  So I get to cross something off already!  Hopefully that is motivation to keep going with my list.

Indian Butter Chicken

I served it over rice, and with a side of homemade Naan bread.  It was delicious.  The sauce was rich, and had so much flavor.  The naan was perfect for soaking up all of the extra sauce.  No surprise this was better than the spice mix I normally use.  Given how easy it was, and that most of the ingredients are pantry staples in my house, I know I will be making this again soon!

Please go grab the recipe over at Culinary.Net.  I know you will love it just as much as we do!

  1. This looks delicious! I love Indian food too. We have a wonderful Indian place here that has a lunch buffet – and it does not disappoint!

  2. I’ve never had this dish, but I’ve seen it on several blogs and am always so curious! We really enjoy Indian food so I definitely need to try it. Yours looks wonderful!!

  3. Your chicken looks so good, Erin! And if I can enjoy it with a side of naan, then I’m one happy girl!

  4. Erin, this looks phenom. One confession though: I’ve never had Indian food! My family consists of a bunch of spice wimps who have never tried Indian food, yet already somehow know they hate it (I know, I must be adopted). I’m so making this to change their mind!

    • Seriously, this is not spicy at all!! My son is 7 and can’t handle heat at all – he eats and loves this. He loves extra sauce on his rice, so that says a lot about the lack of heat! I hope you try it!

  5. Must make this ASAP!!

  6. This looks amazing! We’re really crazy about Indian food at our house too! So many delicious flavors. I’m so glad you had this on your bucket list so we could enjoy it too!

  7. I’m so addicted to butter chicken!!!

  8. I have been on a real Indian food kick recently. This looks fabulous!

  9. I don’t think I’ve had enough Indian food in my life yet. Must try this!

  10. Wow, that looks awesome!! You are really doing some amazing Indian cooking these days. I’m enjoying it all..now if I could just figure out how I can take some out of the screen I would be a happy camper. :)

  11. Yum this looks so good. I love indian chicken dishes, but have never tried making one myself for some reason. I definitely think I’m going to give this one a go though. Homemade naan sounds amazing too!

  12. What a lovely way to dress up chicken! This recipe sounds amazing!!!! Pinning now.

  13. I’m going to try this. I’ve never really tried Indian food because of my fear of heat. My husband has been dying to try it so this sounds like a good dish for my introduction. It looks great!

  14. Me, too! Indian has become a recent favourite! This is one good looking dish, Erin. Makes we want to swim in that beautiful sauce with lots of basmati rice! Oh why, oh why did I decide to do Paleo diet now? No grains, no refined sugar, no dairy (but can re-introduce dairy after a month). I just can’t imagine eating Indian dishes like this butter chicken with rice to cut the richness…Sigh…

  15. I have always wanted to try this dish- what a fabulous dinner Erin!

  16. Perfect timing to find this post. Friday night we often take-out Indian food. Maybe tonight I’ll make it instead :) Thanks for the recipes. It all looks so good!

  17. Tried this recipe today with the homemade naan and they are amazing. My son says its the best thing he’s eaten in a long time and I must agree, not a spicy dish, but definitely got that “wow” factor. Thank you! Must try some of your other dishes, will be following you for sure :)
