Melt Away Challenge

Have you ever heard of Melt?  It was been on the Dr. Oz show recently.  I worked with Melt awhile ago when I made these Thick and Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookies.  I was really excited when they contacted me again recently to see if I wanted to take part in the Melt Away Challenge.  The idea was to use Melt in place of your fats (butter, margarine, olive oil), for one week.

Melt is a butter substitute that is a rich source of medium chain fatty acids (the “good” fats) that your body burns as energy instead of storing as fat, thereby boosting metabolism.  Each organic ingredient in Melt has been carefully chosen so that Melt tastes delicious and supports healthy weight when replacing other fats in your daily diet.  It’s also organic, gluten-free, cholesterol free, carb free, soy free, trans fat free and certified kosher. Melt contains virgin coconut oil, flax seed oil, palm fruit oil, and canola oil — all healthy cooking oils and “good fats.” Typical buttery spreads are made of hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated oils, which have been linked to obesity, heart disease, etc. Melt also has 50% of the saturated fat and fewer calories than butter. Be sure to check out Melt’s website for more facts, great recipes, and to find out where you can purchase Melt.

So how did it go?  Amazing!   I fell in love with Melt all over again!  Unless I am baking I don’t use a whole lot of fat in my cooking.  I mainly use non-stick cooking spray when I saute something.  I did put Melt through the ringer though.  I picked a week I was going to be doing a lot of baking.  And guess what, it worked in every single recipe I tried!

Butterscotch M&M Bars

Reese's Peanut Butter Cookies

Granola Bars

Honestly you would never know I used anything other than the butter or oil called for in each of the recipes.  The cookies baked up thick and chewy, the granola bars held their shape.  The Blondies were soft, and perfect.  And the muffins were just as good as they normally are.  I have tried to substitute margarine before in baking with not good results.  But Melt is different. This really is a great substitute to make your baking a little less sinful.

**I was sent 2 packages of Melt to use in this challenge.  The opinions are completely my own.
