I hope that everyone had a great 4th of July weekend! We were busy spending time with friends, going to a Colorado Rockies game, getting in a good hike, going on a bike ride, and getting to watch fireworks. It was so much fun, but kind of exhausting at the same time! I kind of need a nap just thinking of all that we accomplished in the last 3 days. Or at least a good solid week of relaxation! Or maybe just movie night, where I can doze off a little :) Make sure you get to the bottom for a great giveaway that involves free movies!
Summer is in full swing and it is time for some treats that will cool you down instead of warming up your house. As much as I want to bake brownies or cookies, I just can’t bring myself to do it right now. So instead, I am playing with some ice cream. Sound good to you? Yeah, I figured there would not be any objections.
The second week of summer break is coming to a close, and it has been another busy one! My 9 year old had camp from 8-3 every day last week, plus baseball games 2 nights. This week it was an outdoor survival camp every day, and 2 nights of baseball. Thanks goodness next week we just have baseball. I am ready for some more relaxing days. I think my 9 year old might be too. As much fun as he has had these last 2 weeks, I think he is ready to just play and be home a little bit. [Read more...]
We may be on summer break around here, but somehow our mornings are no less busy than during the school year. My 9 year old is doing a science type camp this week, that starts at 8am! That is an hour earlier than his school started. Next week he is doing an outdoor survival type came with a bunch of his friends. This one also starts at 8am. So yeah, sleeping in is not happening around here anytime soon! But he is having fun, learning new things, and getting to enjoy time outside, so it is all worth it in the end.
Who is ready for Father’s Day? Just over a week a way, and the amazing Dad’s of the world get to be celebrated. My own Dad will be on vacation somewhere thousands of miles away, so I won’t even get to call him to wish him a Happy Father’s Day. My husband on the other hand, I am trying to come up with a fun plan for. It is a little early in the season for hiking in the mountains, but we may venture up there, or see if we can find a bike trail that isn’t flooded.
What a whirlwind the last few days have been. Miami was HOT! It was so much fun to finally meet so many of the bloggers I have followed for a long time. I will give you a fun recap of my trip on Thursday. In the meantime, I might just sleep until then. I had to get up at 3:30 am for my flight to Miami, and from then on it was downhill in the sleep department. I really do not know how people travel for work all the time, and only sleep a few hours a night. I just can not function that way.
I am traveling again this week. Two trips in two weeks is kind of crazy for me, I never travel for work. My son didn’t have school today either, so luckily my mom flew in to spend the day with him. I have no idea what they are going to do, but I am sure they are going to have a great day, just the two of them. Too bad I didn’t get to see my mom for more than a couple hours this trip.
We had my 9 year olds birthday party with his friends yesterday. Nothing like letting 8 third grade boys loose in an ice cream shop. They had such a great time. They were able to make homemade ice cream, sample a few different kinds, decorate t-shirts, and have a special ice cream cake. At least the party ended at 5:00, so the sugar high had time to wear off before bed time. Eating an actual dinner, now that I can not make any promises on. If you live near a Ben & Jerry’s, I definitely suggest you check it out. Something different and fun for the kids to do. Plus, you don’t have to worry about them running crazy around your house!
Today my 8 year old becomes my 9 year old! I can not believe how quickly the time has gone. He was debating all week what he wanted for dinner, finally he decided on homemade sausage stromboli and strawberry shortcake for dessert. I must say, I am pretty surprised he didn’t pick going out for dinner. I gave him lots of ideas, but in the end he said he wanted me to cook dinner. The boy sure does know the way to make his mom happy! Now to find some good strawberries, so I can make a good shortcake tonight!
