The temperatures are finally starting to cool off in Colorado, at least for the next week. It was 95 degrees yesterday, so you really never know. But I am taking advantage of the 70 degree temps, and turning on the oven to do some baking. Are you ready for apples and pumpkin? I am craving apples, cinnamon, and the flavors of fall. As soon as the calendar changes to September, I am ready for summer to be over and to move on. Fall is my favorite season. The colors, the temperatures, and the foods; I just love it all!
We have made it through the first week of school. So far the year is off to a good start, I think my 9 year old is going to love 4th grade. To celebrate the end of a great week, my son is having a friend sleep over tonight. I guess I better get prepared! A fun dinner and maybe ice cream sundaes need to happen. Or maybe that is just what girls do? Or maybe I am just old, and that is what I remember from being a kid? Either way, guess I better figure it out quickly!
We had the first day of school here yesterday. For the most part things went well. It was a little hectic getting out the door in the morning, but that was mainly because we have friends visiting right now. Hopefully by the end of the week, we will be back into our routine, and not rushing so much :) My 9 year old likes his teacher, and has a few friends in his class, so that is promising. He is a little bummed that all of his really good friends are in other classes, but I am sure it will all work out OK in the end. The biggest thing for me is to get back into the swing of making a lunch for him! It might be time to get him involved, and have him help pack it each day
Going on vacation is always so much fun, but getting back is so much work! All the laundry, the work, the cleaning, and everything else. Plus, I am actually heading out on another trip this weekend. My 9 year old and I are headed back to the Mid-West to see family for a week. So much for a lazing and relaxing summer! A little worried about how much I should get done ahead of time for my husband. I hate to see what he is going to do for a full week of meals on his own! But just because people are busy, doesn’t mean there isn’t time for desserts! Especially no bake desserts, that come together in under 20 minutes.
I hope that everyone had a great 4th of July weekend! We were busy spending time with friends, going to a Colorado Rockies game, getting in a good hike, going on a bike ride, and getting to watch fireworks. It was so much fun, but kind of exhausting at the same time! I kind of need a nap just thinking of all that we accomplished in the last 3 days. Or at least a good solid week of relaxation! Or maybe just movie night, where I can doze off a little :) Make sure you get to the bottom for a great giveaway that involves free movies!
Summer is in full swing and it is time for some treats that will cool you down instead of warming up your house. As much as I want to bake brownies or cookies, I just can’t bring myself to do it right now. So instead, I am playing with some ice cream. Sound good to you? Yeah, I figured there would not be any objections.
The second week of summer break is coming to a close, and it has been another busy one! My 9 year old had camp from 8-3 every day last week, plus baseball games 2 nights. This week it was an outdoor survival camp every day, and 2 nights of baseball. Thanks goodness next week we just have baseball. I am ready for some more relaxing days. I think my 9 year old might be too. As much fun as he has had these last 2 weeks, I think he is ready to just play and be home a little bit. [Read more...]
We may be on summer break around here, but somehow our mornings are no less busy than during the school year. My 9 year old is doing a science type camp this week, that starts at 8am! That is an hour earlier than his school started. Next week he is doing an outdoor survival type came with a bunch of his friends. This one also starts at 8am. So yeah, sleeping in is not happening around here anytime soon! But he is having fun, learning new things, and getting to enjoy time outside, so it is all worth it in the end.
Who is ready for Father’s Day? Just over a week a way, and the amazing Dad’s of the world get to be celebrated. My own Dad will be on vacation somewhere thousands of miles away, so I won’t even get to call him to wish him a Happy Father’s Day. My husband on the other hand, I am trying to come up with a fun plan for. It is a little early in the season for hiking in the mountains, but we may venture up there, or see if we can find a bike trail that isn’t flooded.
