Today we are throwing a virtual bridal shower for our friend Julie!!  Julie is getting married in just a couple weeks.  I am sure it will be a gorgeous ceremony, and I can’t wait to see pictures of her in her dress!  To help celebrate Megan brought together some of Julie’s friends to share some great food.

I picked this chocolate chip cookie dough cheesecake for a couple reasons.  First, I know Julie is a fan of The Cheesecake Factory, and that is where the idea for this recipe came from.  Second, I know she has been eating healthy so she could look beautiful in her dress.  That deserves a reward, so cheesecake it is!

Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Cheesecake

I am going to be honest, I am not a big fan of cheesecake.  The only couple that I have liked have been heavily flavored with something else.  For example; tons of cookie dough.  The Cheesecake Factory has a version of this that is completely over the top.  I am pretty sure there is more cookie dough than cheesecake in theirs.  I evened the playing field a little, but however you want to do it is fine by me.  Plus it has an Oreo cookie crust, and I am just a sucker for Oreo crusts.

I thought about doing little mini version of these, but I wanted you to be able to see the cookie dough.  If you have a mini cheesecake pan (I don’t), these would be great to do in there.  Everyone loves mini desserts, and it is built in portion control :)

New York Style Cheesecake filled with lots of cookie dough!

  • 2/3 package of Oreos, crushed
  • 4 Tbls butter, melted
  • Cheesecake
  • 2 1/2 pounds cream cheese, softened - cut into 1 inch chunks
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1/8 tsp salt
  • 1/3 cup sour cream
  • 2 tsp lemon juice
  • 2 tsp vanilla
  • 6 eggs, plus 2 egg yolks
  • 1 Tlbs butter, melted
  • Cookie Dough
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 (14 oz) can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 cup chocolate chips


  1. Prepare the Cookie Dough :In an electric mixer, beat together butter and sugar. Add vanilla. With mixer on low, slowly add in the flour, until completely incorporated. It will be very dry, that is ok. Beat in milk until well combined. Stir in chocolate chips. Roll into small 1 inch balls. Place in freezer for 45 minutes, or until completely frozen.
  2. Prepare the crust: Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Mix together the cookie crumbs and the butter. Press into the bottom of a 9 inch springform pan. Use the bottom of a measuring cup to firmly press it into the bottom, keeping it off the sides. Bake for 10 minutes. Let cool completely.
  3. Prepare the Cheesecake: Increase oven heat to 500 degrees. Using an electric mixer beat cream cheese on low until broken up, about 1 minute. Scrape the sides, and add 3/4 cup of sugar, and salt. Mix over low for about a minute, until well combined. Beat in the remaining 3/4 cup of sugar.
  4. Scrape the sides, add sour cream, lemon juice, and vanilla. Mix over low for 1 minute. Mix in egg yolks until thoroughly combined. Add the whole eggs, 2 at a time, beating for about 1 minute after each addition. Stir in about 1/2 of the frozen cookie dough balls, until evenly distributed.
  5. Gently brush the top of the baked and cooled crust with the 1 Tbls of melted butter. Place springform pan on a baking sheet. Pour filling into the crust.
  6. Bake for 10 minutes. Without opening the oven door reduce the temperature to 200 degrees. Bake for about 90 minutes, or until the center of the cheesecake is 150 degrees.
  7. Let cool for 5 minutes. Then run a knife around the edge to loosen the sides. After 2 hours wrap in plastic and refrigerate until cold, about 3 hours.
  8. To remove the mold wrap a warm kitchen towel around the pan, and let set for 1 minute. Gently remove the sides. Cut into 12 slices, and top with whipped cream to serve.

Peppermint Cookie Dough Stuffed Oreo Truffles

These truffles kind of have a long name.  But I am not sure what else to call them.  I have to highlight the good points right?  We have cookie dough.  Peppermint.  Oreo’s that happened to be double stuffed, but that seemed like too much to put in there.  Then everything is dipped in chocolate, so I deem them truffles.

Today I am posting with a group of bloggers in honor of the victims, families, and community of Newtown, CT.  “Cookies and Crafts for Sandy Hook” is one way we can unite and show support in the aftermath of what happened last week.  Newton Youth and Family Services is a licensed, non-profit, mental health clinic and youth services bureau dedicated to helping children and families achieve their highest potential. NYFS provides programs, services, activities, counseling, support groups and education throughout the Greater Newtown area.  Any donations made to them are going to those that were affected by the shooting.  If you would like to donate, you can find more information here.

Sarah posted these last week, and I knew I needed to make them immediately.  I knew that my 7 year old would love them, and they were perfect for the holidays.  What kid wouldn’t love the chance to eat cookie dough and Oreo’s together?  My 7 year old and I made these together, and then got to eat them!  He was in love.  These would be great without the peppermint extract for the rest of the year too.

I am beyond thankful for the time I have to spend with my son and my family this holiday season, and always.  In the wake of what happened in Newtown, that is even more present on my mind.  I know I am lucky to have each day with them.  I hope in some way we can honor the victims of this horrible tragedy.

Cookie Dough Mini Donuts & Giveaway

Many of you probably know of Jessica from The Novice Chef.  To say she is talented seems like an understatement.  And her new book Mini Donuts: 100 Bite-Sized Donut Recipes just shows you how right I am.  Not only did she come up with all the recipes, but she photographed them too!  Every picture is perfect, and droolworthy, and that is no small task.

I had a really hard time picking which recipe to make.  I thought maybe having my 7 year old look through the book would help narrow it down, but he wasn’t any better!  Between all the chocolate varieties, the various candy versions, fruity ones, and everything in between I was getting hungry!  Finally I went with “The Cookie Monster”, because let’s face it; is cookie dough ever wrong?

This was my first time making donuts, and it will definitely not be my last.  They were so tender, soft, and just plain cute.  Everything is cute in mini form, right?  I am used to cake donuts and are tough and dry, which is why I had previously ruled them out.  But these were anything but, and I can’t wait to make them again!

The kids don’t have school here today.  Not really sure why, but I will take the day with my favorite 2nd grader. I think we might bake some muffins together and go to the library.  Sounds like a busy day, huh :)

Do you have days where you just need a cookie?  I have those kind of days.  That is why more days that not you can find cookie dough in my freezer.  Ready to just bake a few fresh cookies.  M&M cookies have always been a favorite in my family.  Not sure why they better than just plain chocolate chip, but I guess adding more chocolate is never a bad thing.  As you will see, my M&M cookies aren’t only M&M.  They have chocolate chips in there too!

These are a staple at our house over the holidays.  Often times they are the first baked right around Thanksgiving, and they are the kick off to the holiday season.  I am really not ready for the holiday season, but I just had to share these with you.  They are super simple, but oh so good!  And with all the colored M&M’s out there, you can make them fit with whatever seasonal party or get together you are doing.

By now I think most of you know about this new cookbook out called The Cookie Dough Lover’s Cookbook.  It was available last week for purchase, so hopefully you already went out and got it.

This book is written and photographed by Lindsay from Love and Olive Oil.  I am not kidding you when I say I want to make Every.Single.Recipe.  I couldn’t make up my mind, everything is seriously amazing!  So when we went to Wisconsin last week I let my father-in-law pick a recipe.  If possible, he might like cookie dough more than anyone I have ever met.  Finally, after a lot of deliberation and discussion he chose Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Sandwich Cookies.  They are exactly what they sound like.  Two chocolate chip cookies with cookie dough in the middle!

I must admit, I had high expectation for these cookies.  I mean think about it.  Chocolate Chip Cookies.  Cookie Dough.  How could these not be incredible?  Well, they lived up to my expectations!  The cookie is soft and chewy, and the cookie dough is…well, cookie dough!  My dad who does not like raw cookie dough (I know, there is something wrong with him) ate these.  Trust me, that says a lot.

All of the recipes in here have a beautiful, droolworthy picture to go along with it.  There is everything from waffles to granola bars, to cupcakes in this book.  Next up, we are trying the S’mores.  That was my 7 year old requested.

Peanut Butter Protein Balls

Today I am guest posting for Carolyn, of All Day I Dream About Food.  If you are not a follower of Carolyn, you need to head over there right now!  She is amazingly talented.  Carolyn’s site was one of the first that I started following a year ago.  I am constantly in awe of her abilities to transform indulgent recipes to fit her lifestyle.

I tried to fit in over at All Day I Dream About Food.  I made Peanut Butter Protein Balls that taste like cookie dough.  These little bites are gluten free!  I am not 100% sure how to accurately calculate carbs, so I am not going to make great claims there :)

Brownie Cupcakes with Cookie Dough Frosting and Giveaway and an Anniversary

There is a lot going on around here today!  Today marks my 1 year blogging anniversary!  I honestly can’t believe I have been doing this for a year.  It seems like just yesterday I was starting this thing.  I started on a whim, and now I can’t imagine not doing it.  I have “met” some great people in this process, something I never thought would happen.  I am looking forward to what the future holds!  And to celebrate there is a great giveaway at the bottom of this post!

Today seems like it deserves a special treat.  I thought these brownie cupcakes with cookie dough frosting seemed like an over the top indulgence, fitting for the occasion.   I saw the idea over here at Yammie’s Noshery.  The one “mistake” I made, was making these too big.  I should have made the brownies in a mini muffin pan.  I say this only because they are very rich, and kind of a lot just for dessert.  Keep in mind though, they are all gone.  So it wasn’t a big “problem”.


Fudgy Brownie Cupcakes with Cookie Dough Frosting

Fudgy Brownie Cupcakes
1 batch brownie batter (I used this recipe by How Sweet It Is)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  Prepare muffin tins with liners.  Spray liners with non stick spray.  Makes 16 brownie cupcakes.

Prepare brownie batter according to your favorite recipe, box mix, or this recipe.  Fill muffin tins with batter, about 2/3 rds full.  Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, until they are set.  Allow to cool completely before frosting.

Cookie Dough Frosting
Adapted Yammie’s Noshery

3/4 cup butter, softened
1 1/2 cups brown sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1 1/2 cups flour
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup milk
1 1/2 cups chocolate chips

In an electric mixer cream together butter and sugar.  Add vanilla, mix well.  Add flour and salt, the dough will be crumbly.  Beat in milk until fluffy, and the right consistency.  Add more flour or milk if needed.  Stir in chocolate chips.  Spoon on to cooled cupcakes.
