I hear the Oscars are this weekend. Everywhere I turn there are ads, commercials, and party ideas for the Oscars. I have to say, I am not much of a movie person. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy watching movies. But once I see it once, I don’t really ever need to see it again. It is entertaining for the 2 hours I am watching it, but after that I am done. We have a friend who is obsessed with movies, and he does not understand how I do not have a “favorite” movie. So needles to say, I won’t be watching the Oscars on Sunday. But, I do have a dessert that would be great to snack on if you are watching them. Even if you don’t watch them, you are going to want to make these.
Yesterday was my husband’s birthday. We enjoyed a nice dinner out last night, followed by his favorite cookie cake for dessert. Just in time for the craziness to start tonight! Seven extra people are coming for the weekend, and it is going to be crazy. 6 kids under one roof, they are going to be in heaven. I think we might take them swimming on Saturday to burn some energy. Today, I am shopping and cooking up a storm! More brownies, lasagna, bread, muffins and anything else I can think of that we might need for the weekend!
I had a nice post all written up for you today to go along with these brownies. I am not sure what happened though, because when I hit save it disappeared. I am usually pretty good with the technical side of things, but this has me stumped. My husband might disagree, but he designs computers for a living, so he doesn’t really count. I was almost tempted to just give you the recipe and call it a day. But, you all know me better than that, right
Did you guys check out the #chocolateparty 1st birthday last month? I hope you entered to win some of the amazing prizes. Or at the very least checked out all of the chocolate recipes from the whole month! Now that #chocolateparty is headed into year 2, I finally decided to make some brownies. They are my all time favorite dessert, but for some reason this is the first time I am making them incorporating the challenge ingredient. Which for October happened to be………Candy!!!

What a crazy week of weather here in Colorado. We went from 90’s last Sunday, to cold and non-stop rain the rest of the week. School was cancelled on Friday because of all the flooding around the area. Luckily we live in an area that was not affected, but not far from our house creeks were over flowing, and roads were closed. If you have watched the news, I am sure you have seen some of the damage. It will be a long and slow recovery for a lot of the areas.
I am finally posting on the actual reveal day for the #chocolateparty! Honestly, I almost thought about skipping this month. But September marks the 1 year anniversary, and I have done every other month over the last year, so I couldn’t skip the last one. The ingredient we had to pair with chocolate this month? Coffee.
Fudgy Salted Caramel Brownies – Rich, fudgy brownies that are filled with a layer of gooey salted caramel.
On Friday I shared with you my Dark Chocolate Mint Cupcakes that are part of a competition with Nestle. When they asked me to create something for them, I actually created two chocolate treats. This is the other recipe I tested. I was really happy when caramel was selected as the ingredient for this months #chocolateparty, because then I had a reason to share them with you right away!
I am pretty sure brownies are my all time favorite dessert. And the fudgier the better. I actually pinned this recipe forever ago, but then forgot about it. Then a friend (who pinned it from me) made them for something, and posted them on Facebook. It brought it all back, and I had to come up with a reason to make them. She raved about them, so I knew they were going to be good.
We had girls weekend in Denver a couple weeks ago, and I knew brownies was the perfect thing to make. I mean girls need to have some killer brownies, while drinking wine and playing games in a hotel room, right? These have a super fudgy brownie layer, topped with Kit Kat, and then topped with butterscotch. Kind of over the top, but oh so good!
The girls loved these brownies. If you don’t have Kit Kat, I think Snickers, Twix, or even Butterfinger would be great here. I am sure you have tons of candy still around from Halloween, so get creative I can’t wait to make this brownie recipe again, I might have just found a new base brownie recipe, it was so good!
