Do you have a family tradition for Christmas morning?  When I was growing up we ALWAYS had French Toast for breakfast.  Even now, when we celebrate with my parents and my brother in January, we will have French Toast for breakfast.  The same recipe every year as well.  So when I had my own little family, I decided we would try something different.  My son is obsessed with anything cinnamon, so we have cinnamon rolls.  I wish I could say I make them from scratch each year, but I don’t.  I buy the frozen ones, so I don’t have to do any work on Christmas morning.  This year when we celebrate with my family, I am going to try my best to see if I can get them to try a new recipe for French Toast. This Eggnog French Toast needs to become a tradition!

The weekend is here!  Do you have any parties to go to?  Early Christmas’s to celebrate?  Thankfully we actually don’t have much going on this weekend.  Life has been so crazy lately, I am hoping that we can finally get some stuff done around the house.  Like maybe laundry.  For some reason it just keeps piling up!  Maybe I will actually try to tackle some of my Christmas shopping as well.  I can’t believe we are less than 3 weeks away!

Flat Iron Steak with Chimichurri Sauce

Flat Iron Steak with Chimichurri Sauce - a great way to enjoy steak!

Flat Iron Steak with Chimichurri Sauce is a great meal to serve for the holidays, a special weekend, or even on a weeknight. Steak is marinaded in a latin inspired sauce, and then grilled and topped with Chimichurri Sauce.

A few weeks ago I had the amazing opportunity to visit Certified Angus Beef® in Wooster Ohio.  They brought 10 bloggers in to see their culinary education center, meet with their chefs, and get cooking for the weekend.  It was such a wonderful experience.  I learned so much about beef; how to pick out the right cut, how to cook it, how to slice it and more.  The chefs prepared a few meals for us, so we pretty much ate like royalty.  Prime rib, lobster stuffed beef tenderloin, truffle fries, and so much more.  Seriously, I probably didn’t need to eat for a week after I got home!

Multigrain Pilaf with Sunflower Seeds

Multigrain Pilaf with Sunflower Seeds is a great side to have for the holidays! Doesn't take up any oven space!

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of The International Housewares Association for IZEA. All opinions are 100% mine.

Multigrain Pilaf with Sunflower Seeds is a great side dish for your holiday table.  High fiber grains with leeks and sunflower seeds makes a great alternative to stuffing.

I can not believe that Thanksgiving is right around the corner.  This weekend we had my son’s Lego Robotics competition.  They did great.  It was so fun to see all of their hard work pay off.  For 4th graders, who have never done this before, they came a really long way over the last two months.  It will be fun to see what happens next year.  So now that life is calming down a little bit, it is time to start thinking about the holidays.  Planning a menu, getting the decorations together, and making sure the day will be great.

Are you ready for the holiday baking season? It is pretty much upon us.  I have to admit, I am not quite ready.  This year has just gone by far too quickly, I want it to slow down a little!  But today, I am here with a special treat for you.  I have mentioned Katrina from In Katrina’s Kitchen before.  She is one of my very dear friends in this blogging world.  We were roommates at a conference earlier this year, and I was able to visit her when I was in Ohio a few weeks ago.  So this post is kind of special to me today.  In case you didn’t know Katrina came out with a cookbook (The Biscoff Cookie & Spread Cookbook)!!!  She worked so hard on this book, and it is gorgeous and so full of great recipes.

Green Bean Casserole - a holiday favorite minus the canned soup!

We are just a couple weeks away from Thanksgiving.  Are you ready?  Do you have your menu planned?  We are spending Thanksgiving with our family this year, so I am not in charge of cooking.  We usually have many of the same things though, so I am pretty sure I know exactly what will be on the menu.  I am very much into traditions, but sometimes I like to switch things up.  I am known for always having too much food around, and the holidays are a prime example.  The more side dishes the better!  One thing that will always be on our menu though is Green Bean Casserole.

I cannot believe that it is November, and Thanksgiving is right around the corner! This year is going by so quickly, and it is going to be Christmas before you know it! Do you have plans for Thanksgiving this year? We will be spending it with both sets of parents and my grandpa. It should be a full house with tons of good food and great company. I am sure my 9 year old will relish in the fact that he will be the only grandchild in attendance, with 2 sets of grandparents. Life can’t get much better when you are 9.

Heath Toffee Bars

Heath Toffee Bars | @dinnersdishesdessert

There are certain flavors that I associate with the Christmas season; anything mint or peppermint, eggnog, and toffee, to name a few.  Toffee is one of my favorite things.  I have made it a few times before, and maybe someday I will take pictures and share it with you.  But in the mean time, you will have to live with toffee baked goods, like these and Brown Butter Toffee Chocolate Chip Cookies.

Today I am joining some other bloggers in the 1st Annual Blogging Buddies Virtual Cookie Exchange.  This is a fun group of ladies, and we are all doing a cookie exchange today.  Since we can’t do it in person, we are sharing it virtually with you! Check out what everyone brought!

I made these bars years ago as part of a cookie exchange, but kind of forgot about them.  A friend reminded me of them this year, so I got out the recipe and went to work.  My 7 year old and husband loved these.  Usually, my husband can stay away from desserts and has amazing will power, but not these.  I brought these to a cookie exchange I did on Sunday night.  Both my guys said that when I went around the table to pick out cookies at the exchange, I should just pick my own cookies each time.

Trust me, this will be perfect for your holiday tray.  Santa might even leave you a few extra presents if you have these out for him :)  Plus they are super easy to throw together.  Minimal ingredients, quick baking time, and dump candy on top.  Can’t get much better than that.
