I have not gotten back into the swing of things with the blog since getting back from vacation. Today was the first day I felt like my house was back and order and life was back to normal. So maybe tomorrow the blog will be back in the normal swing of things. Just in time for a 4 day weekend for my 7 year old, and my parents to visit.
Before we get to the treats, I wanted to show you a new feature here on Dinners, Dishes, and Desserts. I have partnered with Ziplist to bring you the ability to save your favorite recipes to a Recipe Box. Not only can you save your favorites from Dinners, Dishes, and Desserts, but tons more including Martha Stewart, Simply Recipes, Recipe Girl and more. Plus, you now have the ability to create a shopping list based on the recipes you saved. I am very excited for this, and hope it makes things a little easier for you! Just click the “Save” button in the recipe to add it to your recipe box. You will notice at the top of the page “Recipe Box” is now a menu item. This will take you to all of your saved recipes.
I have never actually had a Larabar. Is that bad? I have seen lots of recipes recently for them, so I decided it was time to try them. They are full of good for you ingredients, so they are a great change from the regular granola bars. They also make a great, quick on the go breakfast.
It should come as no surprise that for my first step into these bars, I went with a peanut butter and chocolate combo. It has never steered me wrong before, so why question it this time. The possibilities are endless though; chocolate, oatmeal chocolate chip, raisins, cranberries, other nuts etc. Have fun testing out new combinations. There is no baking involved, so they come together very quickly!
These were great to have on hand for a quick snack. My 7 year old enjoyed them, and I felt good giving him a snack that was healthy, and not full of preservatives and chemicals. I did not run the nutrition information, so I do not know how it compares to the store bought variety.
I hope you all had a great weekend, and are ready for Monday. I can’t say I am ready for Monday this week, but who is ever really ready for it. It was a beautiful weekend here. We went hiking to a waterfall on Saturday. Sunday, I went running with my 6 year old. He went his furthest ever, 2 miles! He wants to work up to a 5k this summer. Then he topped of Sunday night by eating an enchilada for dinner. He is a very picky eater, so you have to understand how huge this was for us! Now if he would just eat some vegetables….
Today I have for you a super easy recipe for granola bars. They taste very similar to a chewy kind you can buy at the store. These have just a few ingredients, and come together in under 10 minutes. So much healthier and cheaper than the grocery store alternative. Plus you could mix in whatever you want! Raisins, peanut butter, marshmallows, cranberries, nuts, coconut etc. This recipe made about 12 bars for me, but it is all about how thin or thick you like them.
