I can’t believe that summer is pretty much here. My son has his last day of school tomorrow! I am really not ready to have a 4th grader, that is just kind of crazy to think about. I remember being in 4th grade. It doesn’t seem that long ago. I realize it was, and I am older than I like to admit, but still. I am still friends with my best friend from 4th grade, I am sure she would support me in that it doesn’t seem like 25 year has passed.
The weekend is almost here, and I am super excited. We have friends coming this weekend! I am a little nervous though. They have 5 kids. I have 1. Coming up with meals for 10 people is a lot different than coming up with meals for 3. I think I have a plan, but who knows what is going to happen. The kids all get along really well, so it should be a loud, but fun weekend!
I talked about this yesterday, but I am seriously so ready for winter to be over. I was out running errands yesterday, and it was a whopping 7 degrees. Shoveling snow yesterday morning it was -12. As I am typing this, there is a news report about how shivering burns calories. So maybe I should rethink wanting spring to arrive early thing. No, nevermind; I think I would rather workout than be cold.
I can’t believe how crazy the weather is this everywhere. Every time you turn on the TV or get on the computer you see updates about freezing cold temperatures, schools being cancelled, and crazy ice storms. I am feeling very fortunate for our Colorado winter. We have had pretty mild temperatures, with a few days of snow here in there. Sunday was 60 and sunny. Monday we got 6 inches of snow. Wednesday was back into the 50’s. Hard to really complain too much.
I can’t believe it is Thursday again already! Having a 3 day weekend really has thrown me off this week. One would think as a grown adult I could adjust to these things, but I can’t. I went grocery shopping for the week on a Wednesday…craziness I tell ya’!
Are you getting ready for the weekend? My weekend starts this evening. My parents are flying in, and will be here tonight. Tomorrow afternoon we are headed up to the mountains to spend the weekend up there. My brother and his wife are meeting us up there as well, and this is going to be our Christmas celebration. We will also get to go snowshoeing and hopefully some sledding, if the weather cooperates. Should be a relaxing, and great weekend.
It has been awhile since I have done Thursday Things. I am hoping that with the new year, I can get back into it. It is fun to share more than just recipes with you guys! We have a couple of trips planned this year, and this will be a great place to share them with you. Along with everything else that is going on, that doesn’t fit during the normal week. Hopefully you are excited to have these back as well!
Summer has arrived here in Colorado. We went straight from winter (snow on May 1st) to summer. This week has been in the mid 80’s. Who needs spring, anyway! This last weekend we spent 3 hours pulling weeds, tilling soil, and planting our garden. We went a little crazy this year! We have 2 kinds of green beans, 2 kinds of squash, Brussels Sprouts, 4 tomato plants, asparagus, parsnips, potatoes, sweet corn, strawberries, 3 hot peppers, a bell pepper, 2 kinds of basil, rosemary, thyme, parsley, and cilantro. You can probably expect lots of recipes with veggies later in the summer
In 8 days I will be on a flight to Orlando for Food Blog Forum, I can’t even tell you how excited I am!! There are so many great people I am looking forward to meeting, and so much I am going to learn. I am sure next Thursday Things with be full of lots of pictures and stories from the trip.
Yesterday was my husband’s birthday. Because we just went to San Francisco, we didn’t really do much to celebrate. He did request Guacamole for a snack, and Pokey Sticks for dinner. (both very early posts, don’t mind the pictures)
Before I get to what caught my eye this week, I thought I would share a few pictures from our weekend.
Here we are on the boat to tour Alcatraz. If you go there, this is a must do. They do a great job with the tour, and there is nothing else like it.
We borrowed a friends car for the day and drove to Muir Woods, and up the coast. The Red Wood trees are just huge, and amazing.
The infamous Lombard St
And the last day we were there we walked along the bay and across the Golden Gate Bridge
It was a great long weekend, and it is getting us more excited for our trip to Japan in 3 weeks!
Ok, here are a few things that caught my eye around the web this week:
Dark Chocolate Salted Caramel Cookies from Love from the Oven – Yum! I am a sucker for caramel and chocolate together.
Creamy Garlic Pasta from Buns in My Oven – pretty sure this pasta would disappear in a heart beat at my house.
Sundried Tomato Fettuccine from Table For Two – I have never had the Cheesecake Factory version, but this lightened up version looks amazing. On the menu for next week!
Copycat Kit Kat Bites from Shugary Sweets – Kit Kats are one of my favorites, and Aimee never steers me wrong!
Chocolate Peanut Butter Swirl Cupcakes from Sally’s Baking Addiction – I wouldn’t be surprised if these became breakfast soon.
Thanks for stopping by, back with a new recipe tomorrow!
