Thursday Things – Miami

Thursday Things Hilton Downtown

As many of you know, I was in Miami last week.  I attended the BlogHer Food conference there, on behalf of STAR Fine Foods.  Getting there was a little bit crazy.  I had to get up at 4am on Thursday in order to catch my flight.  After a bumpy and crazy landing, the airport was shut down for tornadoes in the area.  So many flights were hours delayed, and diverted to other airports.  I was so thankful that I was on the ground and able to avoid all the craziness.

After finally arriving at the hotel (The Hilton Downtown Miami), I had just enough time to take a quick shower before heading off to an event with Stonyfield, Organic Valley, and Applegate.  Because of the rain we were unable do the garden tour, so we just stayed inside.  After a few appetizers, we listened to speakers about responsible farming, and the importance of knowing what goes into our food.

Friday morning officially started the conference.  The conference was full of lots of great speakers; both fellow bloggers as well as experts in the field.   It was great to be able to learn from more seasoned bloggers, and meet with some brands and people I have worked with before.  For lunch the first day a group of us went to South Beach to enjoy lunch at the Yardbird.  I had the Chicken and Biscuits, and it was so good!  Everyone raved about their food, so I am pretty you can not go wrong there.

Friday night I attended a few events, but the one that really stood out was the Wisconsin Cheese party.  Seeing as how I grew up in Wisconsin, this was a must for me!  It was held at a private mansion right at the bay.  The sunset and the view were just stunning!  Food Network’s executive chef was there to talk about cheese and wine tasting.  Such a fun experience.

On Saturday Jenny and Amanda hosted a lunch get together.  Complete with Cuban sandwiches and massages.  With everything going on, it was so nice to just relax for a few minutes.

My flight didn’t end up leaving until Sunday night.  So I spent the day with Aimee, Jocelyn, Mary, and Liz.  I wish we would have gotten a picture of us!  We went to Morgan’s for brunch.  I ordered the BLT which was wonderful, but I also tasted the Brioche French Toast and that was incredible!  If you are near downtown Miami, I definitely recommend you have a meal there.

So glad to be back home.  The conference was amazing, and I am so glad I went.  I was able to meet so many friends, and get to know lots of people.  I am inspired and super excited to see what is coming next for Dinners, Dishes, and Desserts.  Again I want to thank STAR Fine Foods for sponsoring me to attend the conference.
