Apple Pie Bread – Tender and moist apple bread with chocolate chips, and the most glorious chocolate chip streusel. Perfect for fall.
Apple baking in the fall is the best thing! There is just something about fall desserts. I don’t know if it is the cinnamon and other spices or what, but they get me every time! Apple Spice Cupcakes are a perfect example, and that brown sugar frosting is just amazing.
The flavor of apple pie is perfect for just about anything. It is great in these Apple Pie Bars and today we are turning it into bread! Apple Bread that is topped with chocolate, because chocolate is always a good idea.
This Apple Pie Bread recipe is super simple to make. It is full of of diced apples, so you get actual pieces in each bite. I hate when you expect real apple, and it is just shredded apple that disappears in the background.
Plus chocolate. There are chocolate chips throughout the bread and then and over the top struesel. Streusel might be the best part of a lot of things. Chocolate Chip Coffee Cake or one. I mean, you can’t have coffee cake without struesel. And this one has chocolate chips mixed in! Talk about delicious!
Apple bread is a classic fall treat that you are going to keep turning back to every year! The bread part is a basic quick bread that uses a little buttermilk to make it super tender and moist.
The trick to getting the apples throughout the bread and not have them just sink to the bottom is to toss them with a little flour before adding to the batter. Then you fold them in and they should spread evenly throughout the bread.
If you aren’t big on chocolate, what is wrong with you you could substitute walnuts or pecans for the chocolate. Heck, even if you are a fan of chocolate, you could add nuts and it would be wonderful.
The cinnamon and chocolate and soft apples make for a great combination. Brings me back to the Apple Bars that my Grandma used to make every fall at her house.

Apple Pie Bread with Chocolate Chip Streusel

Tender and moist apple pie bread with chocolate chips, and the most glorious chocolate chip streusel. Perfect for fall.
Ingredients
Bread
- 1/2 cup butter, , softened
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/3 cup buttermilk
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 2 eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 2 cups flour
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 2 cups apples, , peeled and diced (I used Gala)
Struesel
- 1/3 cup flour
- 1/3 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 3 Tbls butter
- 3/4 cup chocolate chips
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease the bottom and sides of a 9x5 inch loaf pan.
- In the bowl for an electric mixer, beat the butter and both sugars together until well combined.
- Pour in the buttermilk and baking powder, mix until fully incorporated.
- Add eggs and vanilla, mix well.
- Slowly add flour, cinnamon and salt. Stir until well combined.
- In a separate bowl mix the apples with a little flour (helps to make sure they don't sink to the bottom). Using a spatula, fold them into the batter. Pour into prepared baking dish.
- To make the streusel combine the flour, brown sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl. Using your fingers mix in the butter until it is the texture of coarse sand, it may take a couple minutes. Stir in the chocolate chips.
- Sprinkle over the top of the batter.
- Bake for 60-75 minutes or until a tester comes out clean.
- Allow to cool completely before slicing.

I love bread, but this is better than bread, this is almost cake! And streusel topping is my downfall! I think the chocolate chips in the streusel is a perfect complement to this bread, the apples are the star here, too much chocolate (did I really just say that) would overwhelm the bread. Just perfect! Pinned.

This looks amazing. Apples and chocolate are not two things I typically put together but I think that could change moving forward. The streusel topping is perfection with a capital P.
