Avocado Bruschetta

Avocado Bruschetta – buttery avocado and fresh juicy tomatoes make the perfect topping for crispy bread. It is a delicious appetizer, light dinner, or even lunch!

I could pretty much live on avocados. They are on my grocery list every single week, and we just go through them like crazy. It can be making Guacamole with taco night or my favorite Avocado Chicken Salad for a go-to lunch.

This Avocado Bruschetta is one of our favorite appetizers. I have been making it for years and years, way before avocado toast was the thing to do. In fact, this was originally posted on the blog back in 2012. Today I am giving you new pictures and some better instructions, but the recipe remains exactly the same, because it is that good!

Most of the time when you see bruschetta you see a classic Tomato Bruschetta. And don’t get me wrong, when you have summer ripe tomatoes, that is an absolutely delicious dish that is down right addicting. But good tomatoes are only available for a short period of time. Which is why I absolutely love to use avocados instead!

What Is Bruschetta

It is crispy slices of bread that are often rubbed with garlic and then topped with a mixture of fresh tomatoes and herbs. It is traditionally served as an appetizer.

Obviously we are using more that just tomatoes here, but they are there! The buttery avocado is just a great such a great flavor and texture contrast with the crispy baguette.

What You’ll Need

Be sure to scroll to the bottom of the post for the FULL PRINTABLE recipe card.

  • Baguette – or really any bread that you can thinly slice and toast. Sourdough would be great, or a loaf of French or Italian bread.
  • Avocado – make sure they are ripe
  • Tomatoes – you can use Roma or even cherry tomatoes.
  • Onion
  • Lime Juice
  • Olive Oil
  • Salt & Pepper

I like the avocado flavor to stand out, so I haven’t added any herbs to this. But you could easily add in fresh basil, parsley or even chives and it would be delicious.

Also you could top this with a little balsamic glaze if you really wanted to take it over the top!

How To Make Avocado Bruschetta

  • Thinly slice the baguette and drizzle or brush a little bit of olive oil over each side of the bread. Toast in a hot oven for about 5 minutes per side, just until slightly crispy.
  • While that is cooking you can mix together the diced avocado, tomato, onion, lime juice, salt, pepper and olive oil until everything is evenly coated.
  • To serve just top the slices of bread with a spoonful of the avocado mixture.

Such a simple appetizer to make, but it is so delicious and a real show stopper.

What Bread To Use For Bruschetta

I like to use a French baguette that I buy in the bakery section at the grocery store. It bakes up really well, and it is just the right size for a small appetizer. But if you can find a sourdough baguette that would be delicious!

You can also use a larger bread like a loaf of Italian or traditional Sourdough bread, your bruschetta will just be larger. Or you can cut them in half and they will just not be perfectly round. But all that really matters is the taste, so use what you love!

Can I Make This Ahead

Unfortunately not easily. The avocado, even with the lime juice in there, will start to turn brown. You can make it about an hour ahead and it will be fine, but it isn’t something you can make the day before.

What Can I Use Instead Of Bread

If you are trying to go low carb and skip the bread you could try this on toasted sweet potatoes or maybe egg plant or zucchini slices. If you are just looking for something gluten free you can use a gluten free bread without any problems. This is a great appetizer to serve a crowd, because it is naturally dairy free and vegan, so you don’t have to worry about any dietary restrictions.

Can I Add Cheese

Yes! Adding a little bit of diced mozzarella cheese or a little feta would be delicious.

So the next time you are looking for a new appetizer recipe to serve, look no further! This is perfect paired with a glass of wine or iced tea. It is very easy to make, super versatile and if you like avocado, you will love it!
