Baked Wontons Recipe

Baked Wontons Recipe – a healthy wonton recipe filled with pork, turkey, ginger, and soy sauce.  Then baked to crispy perfection! Great for a party or even a light dinner!

My family loves Asian food.  It is on the menu probably once at week at our house.  Five Spice Pork Lo Mein has been a staple in our house for at least 12 years. But I am always searching out new and fun recipes to try.

These Chow Mein Noodles with Chicken are always a hit because they are ready in just minutes, and during busy weeks sometimes minutes is all you have. This baked wonton recipe is an old one, but we still love it.

I have always loved cooking, even in college.  So I have a huge collection of cookbooks.  This is from a Taste of Home cookbook from the 90’s. I am not a fan of egg rolls from Chinese restaurants.  The only egg rolls I like our traditional Vietnamese Egg Rolls.  But when I saw this recipe, I knew I would like it.

These are not baked egg rolls by any stretch, but anything wrapped in a wonton wrapper just reminds me of them.  This baked wontons are filled with a mixture of ground turkey and pork, so they have lots of flavor but aren’t super heavy either.

Baked wonton wrappers are hard to get super golden brown and crispy. A super hot oven helps and I like to spray them with non-stick spray before baking.  Once they are hot and starting to crisp up, you can definitely turn on the broiler.  Just watch to make sure they don’t burn.  But this will definitely help to give them the crunch you want!

These baked wontons make a great party appetizer, served with sweet and sour dipping sauce.  Or even a light dinner.  And you can even make them ahead.  I have made a huge batch of them, and then just frozen on the baking sheet.  Once they were frozen, I put them in a plastic bag and tossed in the freezer for an easy dinner another night.

So the next time you are skipping the take out and making your Chicken Lo Mein at home, whip up a batch of these baked wontons to have an as an appetizer.  So much better for you than take out you can get!
