Thanksgiving Recipes
Recipes to make your Thanksgiving tasty and memorable!
Does your family make the same recipes over and over every Thanksgiving, or do you try something new? We are a little bit of both.
I like to throw in a new recipe every year, while keeping some of the same classics. My husband, son and I are not huge turkey fans. So we do tend to mix up our Thanksgiving menu each year.
When I was growing up we had the same thing every single year. And then the exact same meal at Christmas. By the time I was in high school and able to help, we started to add in a couple things and try new recipes.
But even to this day, my dad wants his same turkey dinner for Thanksgiving and Christmas every year. If they are visiting us, and we have something different, then my mom will make him a smaller version of the meal when they get back home.
Tips for a successful Thanksgiving:
- Try your recipes ahead of time. Even if it just your family of 2 on the big day, you want to know the food is going to be good. So try the recipes ahead of time to make sure you know you like them and how they work.
- Plan ahead. Plan your menu and shop for it a week before the holiday. The stores are crazy during the week of Thanksgiving, so you want to make sure they have what you need in stock. And that you still have time to go back for anything you may have forgotten.
- Invite guests early. If you are having family or friends over, make sure to invite them at least a couple weeks ahead of time. People don't want to wait until the last minute to know what they are going to do, so they will make plans if you don't extend your invitation.
- Variety is key. You want to make sure you have a variety of side dishes. Not just carbs...stuffing, mashed potatoes and rolls. Add in vegetables and salads. Especially when you are feeding a crowd, people want variety.
