Copycat Red Lobster Tartar Sauce

Copycat Red Lobster Tartar Sauce – Make fish and chips at home and enjoy dipping in a homemade tartar sauce that is a copycat of Red Lobster!

Let’s talk about fish and chips today. They have to be one of my families favorite things to have. I grew up in Wisconsin where Friday fish frys are a tradition. Along with Baked Mexican Cheese Dip on the weekends.

I also have family from England. So fish and chips are kind of required. And you know what makes fish and chips over the top? Good quality tartar sauce. Even the best fried fish ever, is best when dipped in tartar sauce.

Tartar Sauce

If you are serving fish you definitely need tartar sauce for dipping, it is required in pretty much every country and state I have been to. Red Lobster tartar sauce is one of those recipes that everyone loves. Everyone knows Red Lobster for their Cheddar Bay Biscuits, but the tartar sauce recipe is another staple. Sweet, tangy, and delicious!

How To Make Red Lobster Tartar Sauce

  • Mix. In a small bowl mix all of the ingredients together until they are well combined and evenly blended.
  • Store. Cover and store in the fridge until ready to serve.

Recipe Tips & Tricks

  • Finely chop veggies. You want to make sure you really finely chop the carrots and onion. You don’t want to bite down into a piece of onion, so get it is small as you possibly can.
  • Use Full Fat. For the best results you want to use a full fat mayo. It is going to be richer, creamier, and have better flavor.
  • Get Creative. This is a copycat recipe, but there is no saying you can get creative. I like a little bit of pepper in mine, so I will often add black pepper to give it just that something else.
  • Let it sit. You really want to give the sauce at least 2 hours before you serve it. Store it covered in the fridge and let the flavors blend together before you serve.

Storing Leftover Tartar Sauce

Store leftover tartar sauce in an airtight container in the fridge for about a week. Do not freezer leftovers, mayo does not freeze well and the sauce will turn watery and a strange consistency when you thaw it.

You can whip up homemade tartar sauce in just minutes.  All you need is a few ingredients in your fridge, and you can make this any night of the week.  I used to have a jar of sauce in my fridge, but we never went through it fast enough, and I when we would go to use it, it would be expired.

So this easy tartar sauce is perfect to have and mix up quickly.  Then you don’t have to worry about it going bad and not being perfect every time.

Carrots? Really? How finely are they chopped that you're not chomping on raw carrots?

Yes, they are finely chopped, you can see how small they are in the picture of the sauce. The orange flecks are carrots. It is called for in pretty much every copycat recipe, because it gives the same sweetness and flavor that Red Lobster has.
