This Easy Sangria Recipe will definitely be a hit at any get together.  Slightly sweet, fruity, and perfect for a hot day.  Make a pitcher today and invite some friends over!

When you think of fun summer cocktails, what do you think of?  I think of Frozen Margaritas for sure.  But then sangria quickly comes to mind.  It can be a White Wine Sangria or this fruity red sangria. There is just something about it that screams summer.

I think it is all the seasonal fruit that makes it fitting for spring and summer, but it doesn’t have to be!  You can use the fruit in any season to make a fun version.  Check out this Winter Sangria that uses winter fruits – great for your holiday get togethers.

Sangria is usually made up of red wine, citrus, sugar, fruit, and some kind of hard liquor; usually brandy, rum or vodka. Sounds simple enough, right? It is!  For some reason sangria seems intimidating to people, but it really shouldn’t. I usually just opt for a classic lime margarita because there are only a couple ingredients.

I had strawberries, pineapples, and oranges in my fridge, so that is what I used for this easy sangria recipe, but you can mix up the fruit with apples, pears, peaches, lemons, limes…whatever! You really can make sangria however you want!

How to Make Red Wine Sangria

  • Start by pouring all of your wine, orange juice and alcohol into a pitcher and mix together.
  • Add in the sugar. This isn’t going to be an overly sweet drink, but you do want a little sugar.  Mix to dissolve in the wine, so it isn’t gritty.
  • Pick the fruits that you are going to use and slice them up.  You can use oranges, lemon, lime, pineapple, strawberries, raspberries and more.
  • Add your fruits to the pitcher and put it in the fridge for a few hours to let all of the flavors mix together.
  • I like my cocktails fizzy, so when I serve it I add a little sprite or sparkling water to the top for that fun fizz.  You can totally skip this step if you want it more like traditional sangria.

Picking the best wine for sangria is easier than you think.  Step 1 is to make sure that you like drinking the wine.  Don’t pick something cheap or even something super expensive.  A middle of the road wine that you like the taste of is most important.

You do want it to stand up to the fruit and other alcohol, so a fuller body wine is good.  Something like a Merlot or Cabernet Sauvignon or even a Pinot Noir works great. And if you are a huge fan of Rose, don’t worry you can make this Berry Rose Sangria too!
