As a self-professed chocoholic, raised on a steady diet of fudgy brownies, I didn’t discover the world of blondies until my late 20’s. Their simplicity and versatility quickly won me over, and I’ve been experimenting with different variations ever since.

Enter these Nutella Swirl Blondies – a delightful twist on the classic blondie, swirled with everyone’s favorite chocolate-hazelnut spread. Blondies, often dubbed the “vanilla counterpart to brownies,” the have a buttery, brown sugary base that’s just waiting to be customized with your favorite mix-ins. Butterscotch or Chocolate Chip Blondies, anyone?

Blondies are also one of the simplest desserts to make, so if you are intimidated by baking, this is a great place to start! With just one bowl and a handful of ingredients, you can whip up a batch of these beauties in no time. No need for a fancy mixer or complicated steps – just mix, swirl, and bake.

How to Make Nutella Swirl Blondies

  • Prepare the Pan and Preheat the Oven. Grease an 8×8 pan or line it with parchment paper, then preheat the oven to 350º F.
  • Mix Butter and Sugar. Combine melted butter and light brown sugar until smooth, creating a rich base for the blondies.
  • Incorporate Wet Ingredients. Stir in a whole egg and vanilla extract, ensuring they’re well mixed with the butter-sugar mixture.
  • Add Dry Ingredients. Mix in all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt until just combined, forming the blondie batter.
  • Pour Batter into Pan. Transfer the batter into the prepared pan, spreading it evenly to ensure uniform baking.
  • Swirl in Nutella. Drop spoonfuls of Nutella across the batter’s surface, then use a knife to create a marbled swirl effect.
  • Bake Until Set. Place the pan in the oven and bake for 25-30 minutes or until the blondies are set and lightly browned.
  • Cool and Serve. Allow the blondies to cool completely in the pan before cutting into squares and serving.

Recipe Tips & Tricks

  • Experiment with Nut Butters. Explore using different types of nut butter like almond, cashew, or peanut butter for unique flavor variations in your blondies.
  • Get Creative with Mix-Ins and Toppings. Enhance the flavor and texture of your blondies by incorporating mix-ins such as chopped nuts, dried fruits, caramel bits, or pretzel pieces. For added indulgence, top the blondies with a drizzle of melted chocolate, caramel sauce, or a sprinkle of sea salt after baking.
  • Check for Doneness. Insert a toothpick into the center of the blondies to check for doneness. It should come out with a few moist crumbs attached.
  • Cooling Time Matters. Allow the blondies to cool completely in the pan before cutting to ensure they set and maintain their shape.
  • Storage Tips: Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to several days or freeze for longer-term storage.
  • Serve with Ice Cream. Elevate your blondie experience by serving warm blondies with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for a delightful dessert treat.
Can I use white sugar instead of brown sugar?

While brown sugar adds depth and moisture to the blondies, you can substitute with white sugar if necessary, though the flavor and texture may vary slightly.

How to store leftover blondies?

Store leftover blondies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. You can also refrigerate them for up to a week or freeze them for up to 3 months.

Can I use something other than Nutella?

Yes, you can skip the Nutella swirl or substitute your favorite chocolate or nut spread, such as chocolate ganache, almond butter, or chocolate spread, for a delicious twist on the classic recipe. Or make your own Homemade Nutella!
