Philly Cheesesteak Sliders in a white dish

A classic recipe for sliders is usually made using a mini burger patty, but you can do so much more with these awesome little sandwiches. Though I’ve never been to Philadelphia myself, I love Philly cheesesteaks. When they’re made with a good cut of meat and the right cheese, they make a seriously good savory sandwich.

Aside from these tasty sliders, there are all sorts of ways to make Philly cheese steak-inspired recipes. For instance, you can get all of the flavors of this sandwich in an easy and hearty Philly Cheesesteak Sloppy Joe. And my Philly Cheesesteak Dip is a game-day appetizer that takes plain old white queso to the next level!

Why You’ll Love These Cheesesteak Sliders

  • These sliders are super easy to make. You’ll only need to saute your meat and veggies, then assemble and bake the sliders to melt the cheese.
  • They’ll be ready in under 30 minutes, making them an ideal recipe for busy days or when you have unexpected guests coming over.
  • Enjoy these versatile sandwiches for lunch, dinner, tailgating parties, or Super Bowl appetizers.
  • A perfect pint-sized meal for kids, so they’re great for family meals and birthday parties.

What You’ll Need

Be sure to scroll to the bottom of the post for the FULL PRINTABLE recipe card.

  • Slider Rolls – Use your favorite dinner rolls for this recipe. Try soft Hawaiian sweet rolls if they’re available in your area.
  • Thinly Sliced Steak – Buy this from the freezer section. If you can’t find it, you can use deli slices of roast beef instead.
  • Provolone Cheese – Creamy and mild Provolone makes this sandwich superb. You could also use Swiss cheese if you prefer.
  • Onion – Use non-sweet white or yellow onions for these sliders.
  • Green Pepper – A classic veggie to add flavor and texture to a cheesesteak. You could also use red bell peppers or a mix of the two.
  • Mushrooms – White button or cremini mushrooms work well in this recipe.

How to Make Philly Cheesesteak Sliders

  • Prepare the rolls. Slice each roll in half, then place all the bottom halves in one layer in a 13×9-inch baking dish.
  • Cook the steak and veggies. In a large skillet, toss and cook the steak completely. Drain and set aside. Then saute the onions, peppers, and mushrooms until tender.
  • Assemble the sliders. Place an even layer of the cooked steak over the bottom buns, then top them all with the onion and pepper mixture. Top the peppers and onion with cheese, then place the top buns on.
  • Bake. Cover the pan with foil and bake for 10-15 minutes in a 350°F oven until the cheese is melted.  Serve and enjoy.

Recipe Tips & Variations

  • To make these super easy, I use frozen beef slices. Ultra-thin shaved beef is best. Alternatively, you can use deli roast beef or go all out and slice up ribeye steaks!
  • For extra flavor, brush the tops of the rolls with melted butter or garlic butter just before baking.
  • As you cook the beef, keep it from sticking together by stirring and breaking it apart continuously as it cooks. Tongs or a spatula are helpful for this.
  • Taking these to a party? No problem! Bake them in a disposable foil baking dish for an easy portable version, and you won’t have to worry about getting your pan back.
  • Switch up the toppings as you like by using different colors of bell peppers, other mushrooms like shiitakes, or a different type of cheese.

How Can I Reheat Leftover Sliders?

To reheat leftover sliders, wrap them in foil and bake them in an oven or toaster oven at 300°F for about 15 minutes or until heated through.

Can I Make Cheesesteak Sliders Dairy Free?

Yes, you can omit the cheese or substitute it with a non-dairy slice like Violife or Chao cheese.

Can I Use Whole Wheat Buns?

Whole wheat buns are great for this recipe, as long as you enjoy their heartier flavor.

How To Store Leftovers

  • Refrigerate – Store any leftover sliders in an airtight container in the refrigerator. They’ll last for about 3 days.
  • Freeze – Freeze these sliders by cooking the meat and veggies, then assembling them in the pan as instructed. Cover, wrap well, and freeze. Thaw them in the fridge overnight before baking. Then bake them as directed, covered in foil, until cooked through, around 30 minutes.
