Philly Cheesesteak Sloppy Joes – If you like sloppy Joes and like a Philly cheesesteak sandwich, you are going to love this quick and easy dinner.
When I was growing up with had Sloppy Joes quite often for dinner. I still make the same recipe my mom did, and it is a staple in our house. But sometimes you want to mix things up! Taco Sloppy Joes is a new way to enjoy an old favorite that is a big hit.
The classic Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich is one of my favorites. Seriously, if it is on a menu, there is a good chance it is what I will order. There is just something about them I love. So I had to combine 2 classics into one tasty dinner.

Philly Cheesesteak’s are one of my favorite sandwiches. I don’t eat them the right way (my dislike of cheese, and all), but I still love them! I really want to go to Philly and get a real one, but I am scared they will shun me from their city. I don’t mind a little cheese on there, but it has to be provolone. Onion and mushrooms are a must! From what I have seen on TV, this is not the way they are done in Philly.
So, I will stick with my local place that caters to my strangeness, and doesn’t judge. Well maybe they judge, but not to my face. And now, I can make this sloppy joe version at home! This isn’t quite the same, as it uses ground meat (obviously), but the underlying flavors are there.

Philly Cheesesteak Sloppy Joes are such a great easy dinner any night of the week. You can customize to what your family likes. If you want lots of green peppers, you can add more. If you don’t like mushrooms, you can leave them out. Then you mix all the cheese in and it gets melty and all kinds of deliciousness!
Sloppy Joes are such a classic dinner. I love to use them to feed a crowd when we have people over. And these are no different. Everyone raves about them, they are easy and so good! You could keep them warm in the crock pot if you wanted to make them ahead of time too.

Don’t listen to what they say on TV! I get mine with provolone and onions too. It really depends on the place and how quick you can say ‘wit’ or ‘wit out’ but yeah, none of that whiz stuff!
Loved these sandwiches and have been thinking of making them again! 😀
Tara @ Chip Chip Hooray says
I always get mine with provolone as well–I can’t do the “whiz” version. And no onions for me, either! I probably got an eyeroll from the Philly natives when I lived there, but provolone is totally a viable option. Kita would know! 🙂

I LOVE cheese steak sandwiches. Love, love, love. I can’t imagine one without a bunch of cheese on it though. I think your version (with masses of cheese) looks and sounds delicious.

Good looking steak sandwhich that my family would like! I like cheese but not lots and lots of it, so I know what you mean.
Jen at The Three Little Piglets says
You don’t really like cheese!? How did I miss that one!? I love cheese almost as much as I love my children!

My husband is from Philly and some of his brothers and sisters still live there. When we were first married, we went to visit and I insisted we stop and have a real Philly Cheesesteak. They did think I was crazy for not having American cheese spread on it (but I think I remember that provolone was an option, because that’s how I like mine too.) I love cheese but I’m really picky about the kind too. I love this idea and you know I love anything that involves a slow cooker! And great idea for serving mass quantities of people. We are having friends over this afternoon for a play date and I think I just may do sloppy joe’s! Hope you are having a great week!
Alyssa says
Wow, I just saw how long that comment was. Sorry about that. It’s 7am here and I’m already on my third cup of coffee…guess it’s kicked in 🙂
Jen Laceda @ Tartine and Apron Strings says
I like it hot, too, so hot peppers + sriracha = good cheesesteak sloppy joes!
Stephanie @ Eat. Drink. Love. says
I say make whatever works for you! I love cheese, but this sandwich has some really great flavors and I don’t think I would miss the cheese!

I do want to try real Philly Cheesesteak Sandwih in Philly too! Kind of far from here for sandwich, but I bet it’s really good. We have one popular place here but I think I should make one myself using this recipe. It shouldn’t be that hard…and it must be good if we use better quality stuff. Thanks for the recipe Erin!
