I am tired of snow!! I know I have said it all week, but seriously 20 inches of snow in mid April is just wrong! It makes me want to go back to Japan where they had gorgeous spring weather! You can see the other write ups I wrote on Japan Thursday Things last week and Thursday Things from the week before.
After our time in Oasaka we headed back to Tokyo for the last couple days of our trip. We spent two nights in an area of Tokyo called Odaiba. It is a man made island in the bay. Everywhere you turn on Odaiba you see the most interesting buildings. They love buildings with cut outs in them!
Odaiba is also full of huge malls and lots of museums. The Panasonic center has a really great hands-on science museum on the top floor. We all had a great time there, and my 7 year old learned a lot. We also went to another science museum where we got to see a demonstration with ASIMO. He is a robot that can walk, run, kick a ball, and all sorts of other amazing things.
Our hotel was right on the bay, so we had a great view of the “rainbow” bridge and into Tokyo.
We really lucked out with the timing of the cherry blossoms while we were there. Normally they aren’t in full bloom until the beginning to mid April. But this year they were way ahead of schedule. I believe it was 12 days ahead of the earliest bloom on record. They were amazing.
We went to Ueno Park to see the cherry blossoms. The place was packed. We were there around 11am on a weekday, and it was like everyone had taken off of work to see them. The sidewalks were lined with tarps where people were camped out with food and drinks to spend the day there.
Finally we were able to see the infamous Tokyo Tower. It is modeled after the Eiffel Tower, so it may look familiar to you. We did not go to the top, but it was gorgeous to see at night.
We absolutely loved Japan. It was one of the most unique trips we have ever taken. I hope that you enjoyed reading about it, and looking at the pictures. Next time I will share with you some of the food we ate and snacks we had.
