Visit Breckenridge

Recently I had the opportunity to spend the weekend in Breckenridge.  It is so much more than just a ski town!

Visit Breckenridge - Breckenridge is a gorgeous city and more than just a ski town!

If you follow me in Instagram, you will remember a couple weeks ago I had the opportunity to spend the weekend in Breckenridge with an amazing group of bloggers.  We met up there for 3 days of learning, fun, eating, and seeing Breckenridge.  It was the first time that I have ever planned an event, and it was actually kind of fun.  I might have missed my calling as event planner.

BreckBlog Retreat Lunch

We worked closely with GoBreck to plan this event.  They so generously provided a house for us to stay at for 3 nights.  As well as recomended activities for us, hooked us up with a chef, and they even came to have dinner with us one night.  Breckenridge is a gorgeous little town nestled in the Rocky Moutains of Colorado.  It is well known for its skiing, and people come from all over to ski there.  But, there is so much more.  If you have the chance to visit during the fall, the leaves and the scenery are stunning!

Slopeside Manor - Breckenridge Colorado

Slopeside Manor, the house we stayed at, is located right off peak 8.  That means you can walk across the street and basically be on a ski hill.  This is great in the winter for sure.  But we enjoyed walking the tracks in the morning, and exploring on foot….no snow required.  In the summer you can take the gondola up the mountain and ride the alpine slide or do many of the other activities they have up there!

Gorgeous fall weather in Breckenridge Colorado

We visited the Breckenridge Distillery one afternoon.  They offer a free 30 minute tour that is complete with plenty of samples at the end.  And if that isn’t enough, you can sit outside in their garden and enjoy cocktails from their bar.  After the the distillery we walked around downtown.  Tons of shops to visit; hiking, biking, skiing, chocolate, cookies, coffee, restaurants, souvenirs and everything in between.  Plus there is a small river that runs through town with bridges going over it, green space for the kids to play, and lots of area to just sit and relax.  We took a few headshots while we were down there.  Good looking group, huh?

We had the privilege of Chef Ian Truxton coming to cook for us at the house one night.  Colorado Mountain College is known to have one of the best hospitality culinary programs.  And their chefs really know what they are doing!  Ian prepared a Colorado inspired menu to pair with La Crema Wines for us.  It was so good, I want to go back just for dinner!

Wild Mushroom Bisque with Parsley Oil, Black Truffle Oil and Parmesan Crostini

Fresh Green Salad with Shaved Fennel, Strawberries, Goat Cheese, Toasted Macadamia and Fresh Herb Vinaigrette

Sage Rubbed Pork Chop with Caramelized Shallot, Blueberry and Port Marmalade, Oven Roasted Potato Medley, Sauteed Garlic Green Beans

Seasonal Fruit Cobbler

Chef Ian Truxton prepared an amazing meal!

We had the absolutely perfect weather during our weekend.  The temperatures were comfortable, it was sunny, and we were able to spend as much time out doors as we wanted to.  Our house had a gas fire pit, so we could take in the views of the mountains and enjoy the fire and the company at the same time.  Nuance Chocolate is a Fort Collins company that came up to visit with us one day.  Toby, the owner, gave us a little lesson on single source chocolate and bean to bar chocolate.  Then we got to taste a flight of chocolate.  Can’t get much better than that can you!

I am from Fort Collins, and wanted to feature some local companies during our retreat.  Stuffn’ Mallows is another Fort Collins company.  Their story is pretty spectacular.  Three college students at Colorado State University had to come up with a product and a business plan for their a project their last semester in school.  Long story short, they came up with Stuffn’ Mallows.  They are gourmet marshmallows, that have the flavorings (chocolate) INSIDE!  So when you toast them, not only are they gooey, but they have melty chocolate.  3 years later, I think they are sold in 28 states!

Stuffin' Mallows S'mores Bar

Our weekend would not have been possible without some great brands sponsoring our retreat.  The first night we had Certified Angus Beef Carne Asada tacos which were amazing!  And check out those mini margaritas.  Yvette and Vianney have a book called Latin Twist, and they made those for us!  So fun!

How fun is this cereal bar?!  I love working with General Mills and they made sure all of us had our favorite cereals for breakfast.

And we closed out the weekend with a great steak dinner. Certified Angus Beef donated sirloin steaks for us to grill up. Kate whipped up some Brussels sprouts (from Door to Door Organics) and this amazing Macedonian cucumber, yogurt, soup thing.  So good!!  Kind of like Tzatzki only better.

I can’t thank these sponsors enough for being part of our retreat!  Please go follow them, check them out, whatever!  They really are some of my favorite brands to use in my own house.

Those gourmet s'mores look delicious! I've only visited Colorado in the winter to ski, and in the summer for an event. Looks like I need to plan a trip out there for fall too!

This looks like a perfect retreat! Retreats are my favorite because it provides a small group time to get to know each other and to share with each other, and also have a chance to explore somewhere new. That dinner with the chef sounds like it was amazing!!
