Summer is meant for entertaining and getting together with friends and family. With a few patriotic holidays in there, it is fun to have a few super quick and easy treats you can whip up to have on hand or bring to a party. These patriotic pretzels could not be easier to make, just 3 ingredients is all you need, and how creative you get with the sprinkles is up to you!
Traditionally we make Chocolate Covered Pretzels at Christmas, but why can’t other holidays have their fun?
What You’ll Need

- Pretzels – you can use any shape that you like! Traditional, sticks, rods, squares….you name it!
- White Chocolate – I like to use the bar of white almond bark because it melts so smoothly and easily.
- Sprinkles – you can use colored sugar, sprinkles or anything red and blue you like.
How To Make Patriotic Pretzels
- Melt. Start by melting the chocolate in a large bowl until smooth and completely melted.
- Dip. Then you just dip the pretzels and shake off the excess. If you want to completely cover the pretzels you can use forks or toothpicks to dip the pretzels and then shake off the excess.
- Decorate. Place on a lined baking tray and shake sprinkles over them to decorate.
- Harden. Let the pretzels set up for at least an hour for the chocolate to harden.
Recipe Tips & Tricks
- If you want to completely coat the pretzels, drop them in the chocolate and use forks to turn them around. Gently tap the fork against the side of the bowl to get rid of the excess.
- If you want just the ends dipped, you can hold the pretzel and dip in to the chocolate. Tap off the excess, and then hold over a separate small bowl and shake the sprinkles over. That way you catch the excess sprinkles and can reuse them.
- Make sure to work quickly when adding the sprinkles. Depending on the chocolate you use, it can set up rather quickly and then the sprinkles won’t stick.
- Get creative! They sell different colored melting chocolate these days, so you could dip them in red and blue chocolate as well and just have completely solid color pretzels. Or you could drizzle red and blue chocolate over the white, up to you how you want to decorate.
What Is the Best Way To Melt Chocolate
I think the easiest way to melt chocolate for this recipe is to use the microwave. Put the chocolate in a microwave safe bowl and heat for 30 seconds at a time. You want to stir every 30 seconds to make sure you don’t burn the chocolate. If you have a double boiler you can use that as well. Heat over medium heat, stirring continually until the chocolate is smooth and completely melted.
What Kind Of Chocolate To Use
I like to use candy melts or melting chocolate for this recipe because it melts smoother. I feel like the chocolate stays smoother longer as well, so you can dip all of the pretzels without having to re-melt again.
You can use chocolate chips or other chocolates as well, you just have to work faster and may need to microwave the chocolate in the middle of dipping.
Storing Patriotic Pretzels
Once the pretzels have harden, you can transfer them to an airtight container and they will last at room temperature for about a week. If it is super hot in your house, you may want to put them in the fridge, so the chocolate stays firm and they don’t stick together.

- 3 cups pretzels
- 8 ounces white melting chocolate
- Festive Sprinkles
Instructions
- Start by melting the chocolate in a large bowl until smooth and completely melted.
- Dip pretzels into the white chocolate, shaking off the excess and placing on a lined baking tray.
- Shake sprinkles over them to decorate.
- Let the pretzels set up for at least an hour for the chocolate to harden.
Notes
If you want the prezels completely coated, use 2 forks to move the pretzels around and tap against the side of the bowl to remove the excess.
If you want them partially covered, hold onto the pretzel, place in the chocolate, shake off excess, then place over a small bowl and shake sprinkles on to decorate before placing on the baking tray.
