Red, White and Blue Jello Shots – a great idea for your summer party! Very easy to make with layers of different colored jello for a fun and patriotic treat!
It doesn’t matter if you are celebrating Memorial Day, 4th of July or just having a summer get together, these Red, White and Blue Jello Shots will be a huge hit! They are super easy to make, no need to be intimidated by the layers.
You can call these 4th of July Jello Shots if you want, it doesn’t really matter. They use red jello, blue jello, and a layer of sweetened condensed milk to make these patriotic and perfect for any get together all summer long. It doesn’t have to be the actual holiday!
If you know me, or have been around here much you know I love a fun drink. There is a whole Drink Recipes section of this site dedicated to cocktails and mocktails for any occasion.
Those are just a few, so if you need something else for your get together and don’t want to just have a cooler of beer, I have you covered!
Holiday Jello Shots
Obviously these Jello shots are red, white and blue for patriotic holidays, but that doesn’t mean you can’t take this same concept and use it for other holidays! All you need is Jello in different colors, and they pretty much sell every color these days!
- Christmas – use Red, White and Green
- Halloween – yellow, orange and white
- Valentine’s Day – Pink, purple, and red or white
- St. Patricks’ Day – green, white and yellow
What You’ll Need
- Blue Jello
- Red Jello
- Sweetened Condensed Milk
- Unflavored Gelatin
- Vodka
- Boiling Water
The one thing I like to be sure of when making Jello shots is to use a good quality vodka. It is a strong flavor in the shots, so you want to make sure you like the taste and aren’t using the cheapest brand available.
How To Make Red, White & Blue Jello Shots
- Start by mixing 1 cup of boiling water with the blue Jello packet. Mix for about 2 minutes until it is completely dissolved. Pour in 1/2 cup of water and 1/2 cup of vodka and mix until well combined. Pour evenly into 26 little cups. Place in the fridge to set for about 75 minutes.
- Once the blue layer is set, mix the package of gelatin with 1 cup of boiling water until well blended. Add sweetened condensed milk and stir very well. Pour evenly over the blue layer in the little cups. Set in the fridge for about 75 minutes.
- Once the white layer has set up, repeat the same process with the blue layer, using a red packet of Jello. Pour over the white layer and let it set completely. It should take about 75-90 minutes for them to be ready to serve.
What Cups To Use
Because this makes 26 little cups, you probably need to buy little 2 oz condiment cups for them. If you had shot glasses they would work great, but you would need a lot of them.
I find these 2-ounce disposable cups to be perfect because they also come with a lid, so you can store them in the fridge or make them ahead and not have them dry out.

I love it! These are the perfect boozy treats for the 4th. I have to make up a batch this weekend.
Oh these are going to come in handy this weekend!
These are so much fun. My party guests devoured them whole.
This is the perfect holiday treat! My guests will thank you for sure!
Adding these to my must make list for the weekend!!!
Love these! I’ve made them multiple times and always get compliments! I found letting the liquid sit for several minutes to cool before pouring over the previous layer helps prevent the colors bleeding. Even letting each color set completely, I found they bleed since you’re pouring hot liquid over the cooled one.
Hmmmm, we did these for th 4th, BUT yes, even though the first layer was completely set they bleed sonit was more like pastels. Lol still fun though
The 2nd layer is too warm to add to the blue layer. I added some ice cubes to cool it off AFTER I saw it was melting the blue layer. Otherwise, this seems like a good colorful Jello shot recipe. I haven’t actually tasted yet. I’m hoping the condensed milk is not too overpowering. Sorry for the pre-tasting comment. Thank you.
