Flaky apple turnover is the perfect fall dessert

One treat I always thought of as a bakery treat is a turnover.  I am not sure why I never thought to make them at home.  But it doesn’t really matter what fruit you use, this is such an easy turnover recipe you can swap out the apples for peaches, cherries or whatever your favorite is.  For this apple turnover recipe the apples are coated in cinnamon and brown sugar, so they are perfect for fall!

Caramel apples are a traditional fall dessert, and these Mini Caramel Apples are a fun idea to make at home and get the kids involved.  So many different ways to top them, everyone can make their favorite.

Puff pastry and homemade apple pie filling makes for a delicious fall treat

This apple turnover recipe starts with store bought puff pastry.  There is no shame in taking a little help from the store here!  You could use your favorite homemade pie crust if you wanted, but the puff pastry makes them extra flaky and delicious.  Much more like a bakery version to me.

To make the apple pie filling you cook together diced apples with brown sugar, cinnamon, butter, a little lemon juice and cornstarch. The apples cook down a little bit and it gets all thick and delicious!  After it cools for a few minutes you just fill the puff pastry and bake!  Way easier to make than you think!

Use store bought puff pastry to make these super flaky and delicious Apple Turnovers in just minutes!

The one thing I did leave off these apple turnovers is a glaze.  Sometimes you see a white vanilla glaze drizzled over the top.  I think the apple filling is sweet enough, so I leave it off.  But it is definitely something you can add if you want.

And if you are a huge fan of apple desserts, don’t miss my Apple Blondies!  Chunks of apples in blondies with a brown sugar frosting is a great fall treat you don’t want to miss.

Apple turnovers are super easy and flaky!
