Summer is in full swing and it is time for some treats that will cool you down instead of warming up your house. As much as I want to bake brownies or cookies, I just can’t bring myself to do it right now. So instead, I am playing with some ice cream. Sound good to you? Yeah, I figured there would not be any objections.
Last week my 9 year old was in an outdoor survival camp. They played out door games, built fishing poles out of sticks and string, went hiking, made a survival kit and more. Basically they were outside, running around all day long for a full week. He absolutely loved it, but he came home hot and sweaty every day. One day as he was having a snack after he got home, he asked if I might be able to have a special drink or cold treat or something for him when he got home the next day. It seemed like the perfect excuse to make milkshakes.
Creating different flavored milkshakes is so easy! Seriously, just pick out a flavor if ice cream and then you can mix it up using International Delight Creamers. I went with a chocolate chip flavored ice cream and the York Peppermint Pattie creamer. I did add just a touch of peppermint extract to amplify the flavor, but that is totally optional. All you have to do is throw everything together in a blender, or a food processor will work to, and whirl away. If the mixture is a little thick, just add it a little more creamer. I topped ours with a little whipped cream, and instead of a cherry I used mini York Peppermint Patty candies. My son was very excited when he got home and loved these! Definitely a treat that will be made again this summer!
