Green Beans With Bacon – a classic recipe that is fit for the holidays but easy enough to make for busy weeknights!
As soon as the holidays roll around everyone is always talking about Green Bean Casserole. And as much as I love it, don’t get me wrong, there is another green bean dish that is just as tasty!
Green Beans and Bacon is smokey, salty and delicious. Plus it is ready in just minutes, so it is great for any night of the year.

Green Beans with Bacon
These green beans with bacon start out with frozen green beans. Which means you can make them all year round, you don’t need fresh ones to be in season. And adding onions, garlic, and bacon really elevates and gives frozen beans more flavor.
This is a quick an easy version of a classic Southern style dish that is just pure comfort food.
What You’ll Need
- Bacon
- Green Beans
- Onion
- Garlic
- Butter
- Salt & Pepper
How To Make Green Beans With Bacon

- Cut your bacon into small pieces and brown over medium heat. Once it is cooked, remove it from the pan. I like to leave about 1 Tbsp of bacon grease in the pan.
- Add in the onions and sauté until they are soft and translucent.
- After the onions are mostly done mix in the garlic and let it cook for about a minute, just until you can start to smell it.
- Now you add everything to the pan. The bacon goes back, the beans go in as well as the butter. Cook until the beans are hot and the butter is melted.
- Then you just season with salt and pepper to taste and serve!

Can I Use Fresh Green Beans
This green beans and bacon recipe is done in about 15 minutes, so they are great when the holidays are crazy and you need something easy, but also for any night of the week! Yes, you can use fresh green beans but you need to add some broth for them to simmer in to make sure they are cooked before adding back the bacon and butter.

Green Beans with Bacon
Ingredients
- 3 slices bacon, but into small pieces
- 1 12 oz bag frozen green beans, thawed and drained
- 2 Tablespoons onion, finely chopped
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1 Tablespoon butter
- salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Brown bacon in a skillet over medium heat. Once it is cooked, remove from pan onto a paper towel lined plate.
- Remove bacon grease, leaving about 1 Tbsp in the pan.
- Add in the onions and sauté until they are soft and translucent.
- Mix in the garlic and let it cook for about a minute, just until you can start to smell it.
- Add the green beans and cook for about 10 minutes until hot and slightly crunchy.
- Add butter, and bacon to the pan. Cook until butter is melted and everything is hot.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste
