This method is quick, reliable, and perfect for pairing with a wide variety of meals. Whether you’re serving it alongside stir fry, grilled meats, or using it as a base for bowls, this jasmine rice turns out light, tender, and full of subtle flavor every time.

Ingredients You’ll Need

  • Jasmine Rice
  • Water
  • Salt

I use a 1:1 ratio. This means that for every 1 cup of rice you use 1 cup of water. This is not what the back of the bag says, but it is what works when you cook it this method.

How To Cook Jasmine Rice In The Instant Pot

  1. Rinse. The first step is to rinse your rice. The easiest way is to place the rice in a colander and run water through it. When the water comes through clear, you can add it to your Instant Pot. I love this set of different sized Strainers for things like this or dusting powdered sugar etc.
  2. Liquid. Pour in the water and mix in the salt. You can use chicken broth for more flavor.
  3. Cook. Place the lid on, lock it in place, making sure your Instant Pot is sealed. Set the manual pressure for 5 minutes. Once it is cooked, let it naturally release for 10 minutes. I have the 6 quart Instant Pot and use it for everything.
  4. Serve. Fluff the rice and serve.

Recipe Tips

  • Do not skip the step of rinsing your rice. This washes away a lot of the excess starch on the rice and ensures you get fluffy white rice and don’t get the burn notice on your Instant Pot.
  • Use the manual pressure setting to cook. Most Instant Pots have a rice setting, but I think setting the time and controlling that works best. Different types of rice cook at different times, it isn’t necessarily just based on the volume in the pot.
  • You can easily double this recipe and the cooking time doesn’t change.
  • Using broth instead of water to cook your rice in gives it so much flavor. I often use chicken broth instead of water to make it even better.

  1. I haven’t used my instant pot so much, so this recipe is perfect to make! I can’t wait to make this! Rice will go perfect with our chicken tonight! So excited!

  2. This is the only recipe I use to make jasmine rice! It’s perfect every time! Can I double the recipe? And if so, do I need to change the measurements or cook times?

    1. Technically you can, and don’t have to change the cooking times. But I think 3 cups of rice is where the cutoff is for me to have the best results. I think it is a little mushy if you use 4 cups of rice.
