Festive treats just make the holidays more fun. It doesn’t matter if it is Easter or Valentine’s Day, having something that is colorful and screams the holiday is just a good idea! And these Nutter Butter Chicks are one of the easiest things you can make. It takes about 10 minutes, you need 5 ingredients, and they are just super cute! The kids and adults will definitely be excited for these.

If you have little kids home, this makes for a great activity that they can help with. It doesn’t have to look perfect, so let them have fun and get involved!

Why You’ll Love These Nutter Butter Chicks

  • Quick and Easy – it doesn’t get much easier than melting chocolate and dipping a cookie, that is the most amount of work for these. They are ready in about 10 minutes (then you have to let the chocolate set up), so great for a quick last minute treat.
  • Simple. All it takes is 5 ingredients that you can find at almost any grocery store.
  • Cute. I just love cute treats for holidays, and these are adorable. They are great for a dessert tray or you could add them to Easter baskets, or even wrap in plastic bags and give as gifts.

What You’ll Need

  • Nutter Butter Cookies
  • Yellow Melting Disks – see notes below for more details
  • Candy Eyes – you can find at Walmart, any craft store, Amazon and lots of grocery stores with the cake decorating items.
  • Mini M&M’s – pick out the orange ones to use for the beak
  • Regular M&M’s – pick out the orange ones to use for the feet

What Kind Of Chocolate To Use

I like to use Wilton Melting Chocolate Disks when I am making something like this. They melt very smooth and thin enough that it makes dipping very easy! You can find them at Walmart, craft stores or Amazon carries them as well.

If you can’t find them, you can use white almond bark and a yellow food coloring. You just need to make sure to use an oil-based food coloring (they are usually the gels in a squeeze tube). The traditional liquid ones in a small bottle will cause your chocolate to seize up, and you will not be able to dip the cookies.

How To Make Nutter Butter Chicks

  • Melt Chocolate – using a microwave safe bowl melt the chocolate according to the instructions on the bag. The Wilton brand suggests 50% power for 30 seconds and this works very well for a smooth and dippable chocolate.
  • Dip – Once the chocolate is smooth, using 2 forks to dip each Nutter Butter cookie into the chocolate. Gently tap off the excess on the side of the bowl and place on a lined baking sheet.
  • Decorate – Working about 12 cookies at a time, so the chocolate doesn’t get up too quickly, add 2 eyes, then add the orange mini M&M’s standing up between the eyes. The eyes will help it stay standing while the chocolate hardens. Add 2 M&M’s at the base for the feet, making sure there is chocolate there to act as “glue”.
  • Set Up – Let the cookies set up at room temperature for 1-2 hours.

Storage

These are great to make ahead, because they will last for 1-2 weeks in an airtight container at room temperature. You can even freeze them for 3-4 months. Just let them thaw on the counter before serving.
