These cookies are easy to make and always stand out on a dessert table. With their bright colors and sweet chocolate centers. They are pretty simple to make, but fun and cheerful.

This recipe originally showed up on the blog in 2018, and I topped them with chocolate eggs for Easter, which you could still absolutely do! Any chocolate candy will make these delicious.

How To Make Easter Blossom Cookies

  • Make Dough. Cream together butter and sugar for about 2 minutes until it is light and fluffy. Beat in egg, milk and vanilla until really well incorporated. Mix in flour, baking powder and salt until it forms a dough.
  • Shape. Using a medium cookie scoop (2 Tablespoons) shape dough into balls. I have this set of cookie scoops and they work great for baking.
  • Roll. Pour your colored sugar into small bowls and roll the balls of dough through the sugar until it is well coated.
  • Bake. Bake cookies for 10-11 minutes until they just start to puff up and spread slightly. Remove from the oven and let them cool on the baking sheet for 3 minutes.
  • Topping. After 3 minutes, gently press the chocolate candy into the top of the cookie and remove to a wire rack to cool completely.

Recipe Tips & Suggestions

  • Cool. You do need to make sure the cookies have cooled completely before you store them. The chocolate will get pretty soft from the heat of the cookie, so give it time to firm up before putting them away.
  • Don’t Over Bake. Be careful not to over bake the cookies. It can be a little hard to tell when they are done because of the colored sugar on the outside. If they start to crack at all, they are slightly over done.
  • Colors. I used Easter colors for this, but you could use red and green for Christmas, or you could do all pink or blue for a baby shower. These are great for any occasion, just match your colors to the theme!

Storage

Store the completely cooled cookies in an airtight container for 4-5 days. You can freeze them as well, they will last for up to 3 months in the freezer.
