Warm, gooey, straight out of the oven chocolate chip cookies are one of my favorite treats ever. I have tried many recipes over the years. I grew up with this Chocolate Chip Cookie recipe. We always made the same recipe, I have had it memorized since I was probably 8 years old.
That along with homemade brownies. We pretty much rotated between 2 desserts, and I can make them in a snap straight from my head to this day.
I grew up in the Mid-West, but moved to Colorado about six years ago. The altitude likes to mess with cookies! So I have been on the quest for Perfect Chocolate Chip cookies every since.
These thick and chewy chocolate chip cookies work at altitude and sea level! They have that great buttery flavor you are used to, and stay thick no matter where you live. And an added bonus…they use melted butter! So you don’t have to wait for your butter to soften.
Do you want your cookies to turn out pretty with chocolate chips scattered on top like the picture? As soon as the cookies come out of the oven, while they are cooling on the baking sheet put a few chips on the top of the cookies. The more chocolate the better, right?!

Thick and Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookies

Ingredients
- 2 cups plus 2 Tbls all-purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 12 Tbls butter, melted and slightly cooled
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 whole egg
- 1 egg yolk
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 1/2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
Instructions
- Preheat oven 325°.
- In a bowl whisk together flour, baking soda and salt. Set aside
- In an electric mixer combine melted butter, brown sugar and sugar until well combined. Beat in egg, egg yolk, and vanilla.
- Slowly mix in flour mixture until just combined. Fold in chocolate chips.
- Scoop about 2 tbls size balls of dough onto a baking sheet. Bake for 9-11 minutes until the edges are set.
- Remove from oven and let cool for 5 minutes before removing to a wire rack to cool completely.

So...do you think these would work as bars in a 9x13? I typically take things in to work, and having individual cookies can be hard; people often like to cut off a bar in a size they prefer. ;) Thoughts? THANKS! These look awesome - I'm going to make them either way!

They will bake up great as bars. The texture changes slightly, so they won't be quite the same, but great to bring into work!
