Chocolate Chip Cookies – classic thick and chewy chocolate chip cookies. Nothing beats a warm chocolate chip cookie straight out of the oven.
There is just something about a fresh out of the oven chocolate chip cookie that can’t be beat. I think by this point we all know that I am a huge fan of all things chocolate, but the chocolate chip cookie will always hold a special place in my heart. I grew up making this recipe probably close to weekly from the time I was 3 years old. It was my Dad’s favorite.
I believe it was the recipe that his Mom had made for him. At some point in high school she got tired of making them so often, so he had to resort to making his own! The only thing I might like better than a warm chocolate chip cookie is a warm Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Cookie.
When I was growing up would roll this chocolate chip cookie dough in the shape of a tube, and then freeze it. We could bake just a couple at a time, to have fresh warm ones each night. I had this recipe memorized, and have barely even taken out the recipe card since I was 10 years old. Sometimes we get a little crazy and put a few M&M’s on top! And if you want to get really crazy you can make Double Chocolate M&M Cookies.
These days, I skip the step of rolling the dough in a tube, and then having to slice the dough. Now I just scoop balls of dough onto a baking sheet and freeze. Then once the balls are frozen I put them in a freezer bag. So when we want warm chocolate chip cookies, I just have to take a couple balls of dough out to bake. Around Christmas time I like to do this with Biscoff Chocolate Chip Cookies to have on hand for gifts or people coming over.
I like my chocolate chip cookies to be thick and chewy, and that is exactly what these are. They key? Shortening. Use half shortening, half butter and you will get the buttery taste you want, but cookies that stay soft. This is also a great base recipe to use in other things like S’mores Bars. Those disappear like crazy at any get together. Or another favorite is Chocolate Chip Cheesecake Cookie Bars.
