This Instant Pot Chicken Alfredo is a quick and easy dinner with a rich and creamy alfredo sauce, tender pasta, and juicy chicken. It is ready in no time, with almost no work for you!

Getting dinner on the table can be a struggle some nights. Planning ahead, all the prep, the time etc. Not to mention trying to please all of the picky eaters in the family. Well that is where this Instant Pot Chicken Alfredo comes in. Very little hands on work, the pressure cooker does most of the work, and you end up with a dinner the whole family is going to love.
You can mix up the pasta shape to whatever you like or have on hand. And it isn’t quite as heavy as other alfredo recipes. Because the pasta cooks in the Instant Pot, you want to use chicken broth and water, so less heavy cream is used. But you still get a rich, creamy, and delicious pasta.
Why You’ll Love This Alfredo Recipe
- Hands Off – You do have to brown the meat and chop garlic (if you don’t have pre-minced from the store), but the rest is done in the pressure cooker. So no manning the stove and making sure your alfredo sauce doesn’t boil over or burn.
- Kid Friendly – most kids love pasta, especially a creamy pasta. So you will be sure to please those picky eaters. And you could even throw in some broccoli (after it is cooked) to make it more nutritious.
- Fast – The pasta/chicken cooks for 6 minutes under pressure. So it is very quick. The Instant Pot does take time to come up to pressure, but this is ready in about 30 minutes, with only 2-3 minutes worth of work done by you.

What You’ll Need
Be sure to scroll down to the recipe card to get the measurements and full instructions!
- Chicken Breasts – you can definitely use chicken thighs as well
- Salt & Pepper
- Onion Powder
- Garlic Powder
- Oil
- Dried Pasta – I used linguini for this recipe, but any pasta works, including short cut pastas like penne or rotini
- Chicken Broth – low sodium or no salt will cut down on the salt level in the recipe
- Water
- Garlic
- Heavy Cream
- Parmesan Cheese – use freshly grated for the best results

How To Make Instant Pot Chicken Alfredo
- Set your Instant Pot on high and add in the oil to get hot. Season both sides of the chicken with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Once the oil is hot, add the chicken and brown for 2-3 minutes on each side. Remove.
- If you are using a long cut pasta like linguini, break the pasta in half and add to the bottom of the pot. Pour in the chicken broth and water, and add the garlic. Use a tongs to really break up the pasta and make sure it is not in clumps together.
- Put the chicken breasts back on the top. Put the lid on, lock, and change to manual high pressure for 6 minutes.
- After the 6 minutes are up, quick release your Instant Pot to unlock. Remove the chicken from the top, pour in the heavy cream and Parmesan cheese. Mix to combine and let sit for a few minutes.
- Slice your chicken and add back to the pasta. Toss to combine, once the sauce has thickened a little, it is ready to serve.
- Top with additional Parmesan cheese if desired.

Recipe Tips & Tricks
- I like to leave the chicken whole as it cooks, or it will be overdone by the time the pasta is cooked. So slice it after for the best results with your chicken.
- If you are using a long cut pasta, make sure to really mix the pasta up and separate as well as you can before you start cooking. It may clump together a little if you don’t. You will want to do this with short cut pasta as well, but it will clump less.
- Add veggies. Broccoli is a great addition. But I like to cook it separately and just add it when I add the heavy cream into the pasta.
- Season to taste. You want to season the chicken at the start, but after the pasta is cooked you will want to season the sauce with salt and pepper as well. And I always like to top with a few red pepper flakes to serve as well!
- Shred your cheese. Using the green plastic container of Parmesan cheese is convenient, but shredding your own is going to take your alfredo to a whole new level!

How To Store Leftovers
You can store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 4 days. The sauce will not be as creamy when you reheat. If you want to add a splash of more cream it will help the sauce come together.
