Almond Cake – a super moist and delicious almond flavored cake, topped with sliced almonds and powdered sugar. A decadent cake that will please everyone!
Let’s start Monday out with cake. And not just any cake. The most moist cake I think I have ever made. My husband is not a chocolate fan, so I am always looking for desserts that we can both enjoy. This almond cake was no exception. I can’t get him to eat my all time favorite Chocolate Cream Cake. So I think we will have to compromise with this!
If you like almond flavored anything, you are going to love this cake. Like Almond Joy Cookies from Mom on Timeout. A friend brought this cake to cooking club a few months ago, and I immediately knew I had to make it at home for my family. They were all happy I did too!

I was surprised when I saw this almond cake recipe called for almond paste. I have never actually cooked with almond paste before; I just assumed there was almond extract in the recipe. Nope, paste. So I set out and found 2 cans of it (near the pie filling in the baking isle), and went to work.
I will caution you to follow the directions exactly. If you do not mix long enough or high enough, your cake will not turn out. I have heard that from a couple people who have made it, so trust in the directions, even if they seem like over kill. You want to get the final results, trust me!

Almond cake is a dense cake, it isn’t your normal light and fluffy cake. My husband was a little skeptical when he saw there was no frosting involved. I offered to make an almond glaze to drizzle over the top, but I thought frosting would be way too much. Pair with a cup of coffee or a Vietnamese Iced Coffee for the perfect afternoon treat!
After he tried it, he definitely agreed. No glaze was made. So even if you are a frosting lover, and think cake isn’t cake without it – try this! You can always add it later, but I know you won’t need to. Sweet, moist, and tons of almond flavor. So make this almond cake recipe and get your week off to the right start! What is Almond Paste
It is basically a mixture of equal parts ground almonds and sugar. There is then is something that is added in to help bind together. That can be vegetable oil, corn syrup, eggs or heavy cream depending on the brand. It is often used as a filler in pastries. But in this cake it is helps give it the super moist, dense and over the top delicious flavor.
Almond paste is not the same thing as marzipan. So look for an actual can or tube of almond paste when making this cake.

Ingredients
- 2 8oz cans almond paste
- 1 cup butter, , softened
- 1¾ granulated sugar
- 1/3 cup triple sec
- 3 large eggs
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- Sliced almonds
- Powdered sugar

- Sift together the flour and baking powder: add to butter mixture and mix only until blended.

This cake looks so delicious!
I made this cake a couple of weeks ago and I don’t think I’ve ever made a better cake! I did follow the directions exactly and served it as a dessert as a dinner party. Everybody adored it! I’m going to make it again in a week. I had purchased almond paste at Publix but found it from us two dollars cheaper at Target! Just a budget- minded note!
Hi, it’s Barb again. I made this cake two weeks ago and again this morning. Last time I cooked it for 45 minutes and then an additional 30 and it was dry. This time I tried 45 minutes and 25 minutes additionally and it still seems overdone. I have a feeling the first time I cooked it A while back, I cooked it for 45 minutes and that was it. Please explain why it is not moist. Hate to disappoint the people who will be eating it.
Barb – Every oven is so different. Are you covering it after the 45 minutes? Because 30 minutes proved too long in your oven, I would check it every 5 minutes after the 45 minutes to see when it is cooked through.
My husband loves almond paste and I was too lazy to make Italian rainbow cookies , I’m so happy I found this recipe ,Oh my God this cake is amazing, however I had a few ingredients replaced. I didn’t have the triple sec so I replaced it with apple juice, and I only baked it for 45 minutes. It was a little too sweet for me so I will probably use less sugar next time. Thank you for sharing this recipe.
What a beautiful cake,, Erin! That texture…. Mmmm. I can almost taste it! Pinning! And thanks for the recipe!
Anytime I can throw almonds into a dessert is right up my alley. I can’t wait to make this tomorrow for our weekend guests!
I am in heaven! I only can immagine how good this cake tastes and smells!
Looks heavenly! This dessert takes it into a whole another level, can’t wait to try!
What could replace the Triple Sec, that is not alcohol?
You could add a splash of orange juice. It is an orange flavored liqueur.
I FEEL LIKE THE ALMONDS WILL FALL OFF IF SPRINKLED ON AFTER BAKING. CAN THEY BE ADDED WHEN YOU COVER FOR FINAL BAKE?
I haven’t tried it that way. But when the cake is hot out of the oven, they somehow melt into it just slightly so they don’t just totally fall off. You can definitely try putting them on before baking, they may just sink into the cake a little bit.
Can I substitute Grand Marnier for triple sec
Yep, you definitely can
