Bobby Flay Salisbury Steak Recipe

Bobby Flay Salisbury Steak Recipe – a classic comfort food that is super easy to make. Juicy ground beef patties in a creamy mushroom gravy. A perfect weeknight dinner the whole family will enjoy.

When I was growing up we would have Salisbury steak a couple times a month. But it was more like just a ground beef patty and I just remember having ketchup with it, not a savory mushroom gravy that takes it to a whole new level.

Once I started cooking for myself I found the Bobby Flay Salisbury Steak recipe and it has become a staple in our house that gets made over and over again.

What is Salisbury Steak

Salisbury steak originated in the United States. It is a blend of ground beef with a few other ingredients that are shaped into an oval patty, browned, and then served with a gravy or brown sauce.

I have a recipe for Hamburger Steaks already on the blog, and they are slightly different than the traditional Salisbury steaks. Salisbury steaks often have breadcrumbs, egg and other fillers. While Hamburger Steaks are much more basic with often only salt and pepper.

How To Make Bobby Flay Salisbury Steak

  1. In a large bowl blend together the ground beef, egg, Parmesan cheese, breadcrumbs, and garlic until well combined. Shape into 4 oblong patties. Season the patties with salt and pepper.
  2. In a large skillet heat oil over high heat. Add the beef patties and cook for about 3 minutes on each side, until the meat is medium rare. Remove from the pan and cover with foil to keep warm.
  3. Reduce the heat to medium, and add the mushrooms and onions to the skillet. Cook for 7-8 minutes until the onions are soft and the mushrooms have cooked down.
  4. Stir in tomato paste, beef broth and Worcestershire sauce and bring the mixture to a boil. Simmer for 3-4 minutes until the sauce starts to thicken.
  5. Pour in half and half and return the patties to the pan. Cook for a few minutes until the meat is cooked through.

Tips For The Best Salisbury Steak

  • Don’t handle the mixture too much. When you are mixing the patties, you want to mix until the ingredients are well incorporated, but don’t over mix. The more you mix the tougher the patties will be.
  • Take a shortcut from the store and use already sliced mushrooms. I like to use baby bella mushrooms for this recipe, but any kind works. You can even use white button mushrooms if that is what your store has.
  • Make your patties the same size. You can do this by eyeing them or you can use a scale to measure them. But not only do you want them to be the same amount of meat, but the same shape and thickness. This ensures that they cook evenly and you don’t have one that is over done while another is under done.
  • You can use heavy cream in place of half and half.
  • If you want to thicken the sauce mix 1 teaspoon of cornstarch with 2 Tablespoons of beef broth and then mix it into the skillet.

If you like mushrooms you are going to go crazy for this mushroom gravy. It is full of flavor, rich, savory, and the onions add just a hint of sweetness. With the tender beef patties you have the perfect Salisbury steak recipe that the whole family will go crazy for.

Plus you get dinner on the table in about 20 minutes, which you can’t beat on busy weeknights. Delicious comfort food in minutes is the best kind!

I made this today and it was excellent! I did not add the mushrooms as I do like them, but it was still delicious. I will definitely be saving this recipe to make again.
