Recipe Tips & Substitutions

  • You really can make this meal your own. Use turkey or chicken Italian sausage if you want to cut down on some of the fat and calories.
  • I like to use store bought fresh tortellini, but you could definitely use frozen if you have it. I like to use cheese, because there is already meat in the sauce. But use whatever you like!
  • Want to add veggies? Add 2 cups of spinach to the sauce and let it wilt down when you stir in the half and half.
  • Don’t have half and half? Use heavy cream or whole milk. You are just making it a little bit creamy and not just a full red marinara sauce. You can even skip it if you want to.
  • Like it spicy? Use hot Italian sausage or add in red pepper flakes to the sauce.

Storage

Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge. It will last for 4-5 days. You can reheat in the microwave until it is warmed through for a quick and easy lunch the next day.
