Why You’ll Love This Apple Cider Vinaigrette Dressing
- Simple ingredients. This homemade apple cider vinaigrette is simple, yet so full of flavor. You only need a handful of ingredients and they marry together perfectly.
- Better than store-bought. I love having homemade salad dressing on hand in the fridge. Like my lemon vinaigrette and Greek vinaigrette dressing, this vinaigrette takes minutes to make and keeps well. You can’t beat the freshness of homemade!
- Bright flavors. There’s a little tingle from mustard and garlic, warmed up with honey and brightened up with tangy vinegar and lemon. This dressing pairs amazingly well with all your favorite fall flavors.
Ingredients Needed
This vinaigrette recipe brings together a few easy pantry items that you might have on hand already! I’ve outlined the main ingredients below. Be sure to scroll to the recipe card for the full measurements and recipe details.
- Olive oil – Extra virgin olive oil, or another mild-flavored oil, like avocado oil.
- Apple cider vinegar – Find it alongside the oils and dressings in the condiment aisle at the grocery store.
- Honey – Or another sweetener, like agave, or maple syrup for a different flavor profile.
- Lemon juice – Freshly squeezed is best, or you can use the bottled kind if it’s what you have on hand.
- Dijon mustard – Yellow mustard will also work.
- Garlic – Mince up one whole clove, or you can use more or less to taste.
- Salt and pepper
How to Make Apple Cider Vinaigrette
Making this dressing is as easy as combining your ingredients in a jar with a tight-fitting lid, and giving it a good shake. You can also whisk the dressing together in a bowl. Voila!
Tips and Variation Ideas
The more you make this apple cider vinaigrette, the more you’ll realize it goes amazing with pretty much anything! Here are some final tips and tricks for the best homemade vinaigrette:
- If you don’t have apple cider vinegar, you can still make this vinaigrette with another type of vinegar. Try balsamic, red wine vinegar, or white wine vinegar.
- Mix the vinaigrette well. Shake or whisk the dressing together for at least a minute. This is key to emulsifying the ingredients.
- Make it creamy. Whisk in a couple of tablespoons of mayonnaise or plain yogurt to taste for a creamier variation. Creamy vinaigrettes taste amazing on a potato salad!
Apple Cider Vinaigrette Serving Suggestions
This apple cider vinaigrette pairs wonderfully with fall salads, like this roasted squash and goat cheese salad, a fall couscous salad, or this sweet-smoky apple broccoli salad. You can also try these other easy serving ideas:
- Roasted veggies. It’s also amazing drizzled over grilled or roasted vegetables, like earthy roasted asparagus, and roasted Brussels sprouts.
- Grain bowls. Use this apple cider vinaigrette as a dressing for an autumn grain bowl! Choose a base of quinoa or farro, add some crispy chickpeas, and pile on roasted butternut squash, spinach, or any veggies you’d like, and give it a drizzle.
- More salads. Any time of the year, the fresh flavors of this dressing can brighten up a simple tossed salad topped with crunchy homemade croutons, or you can use it to season a lightened-up potato salad or coleslaw.
How to Store
Store your homemade vinaigrette in an airtight jar or container and keep it in the fridge for up to 1 week. Give the dressing a shake before you use it.
Can I Freeze Vinaigrette Salad Dressing?
I don’t usually recommend freezing salad dressings as the texture tends to change once the dressing is thawed. Go ahead and make a fresh batch instead!
