Bang Bang Shrimp Recipe

Bang Bang Shrimp Recipe – Crispy fried shrimp that is tossed in a sweet, spicy, and tangy sauce. The ultimate appetizer that will soon become your dinner!

This recipe is a long time coming!  If you are a regular around here, you may remember back in April we traveled to Houston for a week for my son’s Lego Robotics team to attend World’s. Well I am pretty sure I never told you how they did or followed up at all.

Not only did they do amazing, they came in 8th out of 108 teams from around the world, but we ate some amazing food down there as well.  Including this Firecracker Shrimp or Bang Bang Shrimp or Dynamite shrimp. It goes by quite a few different names depending on the restaurant you have it at, but they are all very similar and all amazing!

We had Dynamite shrimp at Mama Fu’s Asian House for dinner and I have been dreaming of it ever since!  One of the nights we were in Houston Mama Fu’s was gracious enough to invite our team to have dinner at their restaurant.  They set up an unbelievable spread for us, and the boys put a huge dent in it.  Everything from Lettuce Wraps to Lemon Sriracha Stir Fry to the Lo Mein, the fried rice it was all super fresh and amazing.

To cap off the dinner we had their Citrus Cheesecake Wontons and those were over the top amazing.  It was a lemon basil cheesecake inside of a fried wonton and then drizzled with honey. They were so good, I am pretty sure the boys at more than they normally make in a week!  I can’t thank Mama Fu’s enough for having us for dinner. Next up, I am making those wontons!!

Mama Fu’s serves their dynamite shrimp on a bed of Asian coleslaw, so that is what I am doing today.  I have made a bang bang shrimp pasta before that is a great way to turn this into dinner!  I will pretty much take any excuse to just start eating these shrimp. The sauce is amazing and super easy to make.

What is Bang Bang Sauce

Bang Bang shrimp are batter fried shrimp that you toss in a mixture of mayo, sweet chili sauce and sriracha. It is super simple to mix all of the ingredients together while the shrimp are frying or baking in the oven. Then just toss it all together and serve!

You can go to the work of breading and frying the shrimp yourself, they will be even better that way!  But I will admit that I am lazy and don’t like frying things if I don’t have to.  So I take a little help from the store and use frozen popcorn shrimp that I just cook according to the box.  Once they are hot and crispy I just mix with the sauce.  So much easier, less clean up, and a little better for you too.

If you have tried bang bang shrimp at a restaurant you know how good it is!  Now you can make it at home!  Your family is going to love it.  Serve over a bed of Asian Napa Cabbage Slaw if you want, turn into lettuce wraps or just drive in.  No judgement here!
