Linguine with Mussels Recipe

Linguine with Mussels is perfectly cooked pasta tossed with tender, juicy mussels, all coated in a luscious garlic-infused sauce.

I’ve always had a soft spot for seafood, and mussels are no exception. Linguine with Mussels is a celebration of simplicity and elegance. There’s something so satisfying about those plump little mollusks, especially when they’re swimming in a pool of butter, shallots, and garlic. And when you toss them with al dente linguine? It’s pure magic.

But the magic doesn’t stop there. Imagine serving this exquisite dish alongside a Grilled Romaine Salad, its smoky char and crisp freshness providing the perfect contrast to the richness of the mussels. And don’t forget to add a side of Rosemary Focaccia to sop up every last drop of that delectable sauce.

What I love most about this recipe is its versatility. Whether you’re planning a romantic dinner for two, entertaining guests, or just craving a cozy weeknight meal, this dish fits the bill perfectly. Plus, it’s surprisingly quick and easy to make – we’re talking just 20 minutes from start to finish!

How To Make Linguine with Mussels

Recipe Tips & Tricks

  • Choose fresh mussels. When buying mussels, look for ones that are tightly closed or close when tapped. Avoid any with cracked or damaged shells. I recommend purchasing mussels that are already cleaned and de-bearded to save time.
  • Select the right wine. For the best flavor, choose a dry white wine such as Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Grigio, or unoaked Chardonnay. These wines complement the seafood and garlic flavors in the dish without overwhelming them.
  • Don’t overcook the mussels. Overcooking can make them tough and rubbery. Simmer them just until they open, which indicates that they are cooked through.
  • Try different herbs. Feel free to experiment with different herbs such as thyme, basil, or tarragon. Fresh herbs add brightness and complexity to the sauce.
  • Add vegetables. Diced tomatoes, spinach, or roasted red peppers can be added to the sauce for added color and flavor.
  • Make it spicy. For a kick of heat, add red pepper flakes or chopped fresh chili peppers to the sauce. Adjust the amount according to your spice preference.

How do you clean mussels for cooking?

To clean mussels, start by rinsing them under cold water and scrubbing the shells with a brush to remove any debris. Remove the beard, which is the stringy part protruding from the shell, by pulling it gently towards the hinge. Discard any mussels with broken shells or that remain open after tapping.

Can I make this without wine?

Yes, you can substitute the wine with additional chicken broth or seafood stock.
