Creamy Avocado Pasta – a 15 minute dinner with a thick, creamy, and delicious avocado and herb sauce. Super flavorful with just a handful of ingredients!
This avocado pasta is creamy, vibrant, and packed with fresh flavor. Made with ripe avocados, garlic, lime juice, and fresh herbs, it comes together in minutes for a quick and healthy meal that’s both satisfying and nourishing.

This was one of the absolute first recipes that I shared on the blog when I started in 2011. I found the recipe on Oh She Glows website. She is/was a plant-based blogger, but doesn’t seem to actively blog anymore.
I am definitely not a plant-based or vegetarian blogger, but I am all for eating more plants when I can. This Chickpea Curry is definitely one of our go-tos when I want to skip the meat. Or Tofu Tacos are a staple in our house. But this avocado pasta is another one of our serious favorites!

- A creamy and comforting plant-based pasta with everyday ingredients. You don’t have to buy a special dairy-free product to make it, just ingredients you are probably already buying!
- Want to add meat or more protein? Go for it! I topped with a few chopped almonds from some texture, but adding grilled chicken or shrimp would be great to bulk this up more.
- This is ready in 15 minutes! While you cook the pasta the sauce comes together in just a couple of minutes. Then dinner is done!
What You’ll Need

- Avocado – you just want to make sure your avocados are nice and ripe. They are what give the pasta all the flavor
- Lime Juice
- Olive Oil
- Garlic
- Fresh Basil
- Salt & Pepper
- Dried Pasta – you really can use any shape pasta you want. I obviously used spaghetti for this, but any cut will work great.
I like to top with red pepper flakes and chopped walnuts for a little extra flavor and texture.
How To Make Avocado Pasta
- Cook Pasta. Bring a large pot of water to boil and cook pasta according to the package directions. Reserve 1 cup of pasta water to thin the sauce.
- Make Sauce. Add avocado, basil, garlic, olive oil, lime juice, salt and pepper to a food processor or blender. Process until smooth. Taste and adjust the salt and pepper as necessary.
- Toss Together. Once the pasta is cooked, add it to a bowl with the sauce. If necessary add water a little bit at a time to get the sauce to fully coat the noodles.
- Serve. This is best served immediately. You can add chopped nuts, fresh herbs or red pepper flakes to the top for more texture and flavor.
This avocado sauce is almost like and avocado pesto. It is creamy, tons of flavor, and so good. The basil definitely gives it a pesto flavor, without nuts, cheese, or tons of oil.
Recipe Tips & Suggestions
- Herbs. Not everyone loves fresh basil, so you can use cilantro or parsley for this sauce and the flavors come together really well.
- Double Recipe. This recipe is made for 2 servings. If you want to feed a family just double everything and you will have 4 servings. 1 avocado will cover about 4-5 ounces of dried pasta, so 2 avocado should feed 4.
- Storage. This is one of those recipes that does not reheat well. There is lime juice in the sauce, so the avocado will not turn brown quickly, but heating mashed avocado it just not ideal. So just make what you are going to eat.
What Can I Add To Avocado Pasta
If you want to make this a more filling meal, you can definitely add meat. By default it is actually vegan, but if you don’t care about that, or want to use vegan/vegetarian friendly alternatives, here are a few ways to bulk this up.
- Air Fryer Chicken Breasts are great sliced on top
- Adding Parmesan cheese in top adds great flavor
- Sauteed Shrimp is a delicious pairing
- Cherry tomatoes raw or roasted add a burst of flavor to this dish

Ingredients

- 1 lime, juiced
- 2 cloves, minced
- 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 4-5 ounces dried pasta
