Tomato Mozzarella Salad

Tomato Mozzarella Salad – fresh summer produce makes for the best caprese salad! Fresh juicy tomatoes, mozzarella cheese, and fresh basil topped with a balsamic glaze is the perfect summer side.

When summer hits I love to use fresh produce to make delicious meals and sides. Nothing beats fresh juicy tomatoes that are straight from the garden or farmers market.

This Caprese Pasta Salad is very similar to this salad, mainly it adds pasta. So if you really can’t get enough and want to make this a full meal, that is a great way to make it happen.

What Is Caprese Salad

A Caprese Salad is a traditional Italian salad that is made with sliced tomatoes, fresh mozzarella cheese, and basil. It has an olive oil drizzle on top and is seasoned with salt. It is named after the island of Capri in Italy and has the same red, white, and green colors of the Italian flag.

You will often see tomato mozzarella salad made with slices of tomatoes and mozzarella cheese with full basil leaves. I like to use cherry or grape tomatoes with mozzarella cheese balls just to make it easier to serve and eat. When you are brining this to a potluck, it is a lot easier for people to help themselves when they can just scoop it onto their plate.

  3. Thinly slice your basil and toss everything together.
  4. Add olive oil and season with salt and pepper. Mix until everything is evenly coated.
  5. Drizzle with balsamic glaze to serve.

Want More Flavor?

Pesto is a great way to add just a little burst of flavor to this salad. You can add about 2 tablespoons of pesto and toss together when you add the olive oil.

  • Make it a meal! Add protein to make this a full meal. Grilled chicken, shrimp or even chickpeas make a great addition.
  • Add veggies – I like adding avocado to just about anything and this is no exception! But other veggies like zucchini or artichoke hearts are delicious as well.

What To Serve It With

This fresh summer salad can go with just about anything! It is great to serve when you are grilling or taking to any get together this summer.

Storage

This is one of those salads that you don’t want to make too far ahead of time. You can make it a couple hours ahead of time and store covered in the fridge until you are ready to serve. Once you slice the tomatoes, they do start to break down, so you don’t want to make it more than just a few hours before you serve.
