I love an easy dinner that I don’t have to think about. And this crockpot ranch chicken is exactly that. I can have the ingredients on hand and all times, so there is hardly any planning that has to happen either.

I served this over rice this time, but it is also great to add cooked egg noodles with the shredded chicken at the end and mix everything together. Creamy, comforting, flavorful and oh so delicious!

What You’ll Need

Be sure to scroll to the bottom of the post for the FULL PRINTABLE recipe card.

  • Chicken Breasts – I like to use boneless skinless chicken breasts, but you could also use thighs.
  • Cream of Chicken Soup – this is just one of those recipes that uses canned soup. If you are against using even the “better” brands, try my Homemade Cream of Chicken Soup as a swap.
  • Ranch Seasoning – you can use a store bought packet or my Homemade Ranch Dressing Mix is great to have in the pantry for recipes like this.
  • Cream Cheese – just a little bit melts in with the sauce and gives it great flavor.
  • Milk – you can use any milk you like, you just need something to thin out the soup a little.

How To Make Crockpot Ranch Chicken

  • Make the sauce. In the base of your crockpot whisk together chicken soup, ranch dressing mix, and milk until nice and smooth.
  • Cook. Add chicken to the crockpot and nestle down into the sauce. Top with a few cubes of cream cheese and let it cook for about 4 hours, until the chicken is tender and you can shred it.
  • Serve. Serve with pasta or over rice topped with a little parsley for freshness.

Helpful Tools

  • Slow Cooker – I have this one with a timer that is really nice. I have used it for years and it is still going strong.
  • Mini Whisk – this is great to have for making dressings and sauces.
  • Silicone Coated Tongs – these are great for non-stick pans or anything you don’t want to scratch.

Can I Use Frozen Chicken

The real answer for this is no. A crockpot cooks slowly, so as the chicken thaws it does not get hot enough, fast enough to be absolutely safe to eat. Will it work? Sure the chicken will cook and the recipe will be fine. But is it advised? No.

Storage

Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 4 days. You can reheat in the microwave until it is warmed through. Or if you are reheating a large amount, you can also bake in a 350º F oven, until it is hot.

Serving Suggestions

I like this served over Jasmine Rice or you can mix with your favorite pasta. Egg Noodles or Penne work really well to soak up the sauce.

You can serve with a side of Roasted Asparagus or Roasted Edamame or Olive Garden Breadsticks are a delicious way to make sure you get all of the sauce.
