Crockpot Chicken and Gravy – dinner doesn’t get much easier than this! Creamy, comforting, and tender chicken cooked in a rich gravy.
This is one of those recipes that has been around for decades. It is so simple to make, but turns out so comforting and delicious every time! The chicken comes out tender and juicy after cooking in a rich gravy, that you will not have anyone complaining at dinner.
Crockpot Chicken and Gravy takes about 5 minutes worth of work to get started and then the crockpot does all the work. It is great for when you need something fast, but don’t have a lot of time. All of the ingredients are pantry staples, so you can just pull them out whenever you need.

How Can I Thicken My Gravy
Sometimes if your chicken is extra juicy or if you add other vegetables, it can produce some extra liquid and thin out your gravy. So if you want it a little bit thicker, it just takes about 10 extra minutes of cooking to fix it!
- Mix together 2 Tablespoons of cold water with 2 Tablespoons of cornstarch until it is smooth.
- Stir into the gravy with the shredded chicken and let it cook for about 10 more minutes.
After 10 minutes it should have thickened a little and you can serve!
Can I Add Vegetables
Yes, absolutely! You just want relatively quick cooking vegetables, so they are done in the time it takes the chicken to cook.
- Mushrooms
- Green Beans
- Carrots
- Sweet Corn
The recipe calls for boneless skinless chicken breasts. I think they work well with this recipe, but you can definitely use boneless skinless chicken thighs if you prefer. If you use something on the bone the cooking time will change quite a bit.
No, it is best to start with thawed chicken. According to the USDA you really should start with thawed chicken for food safety reasons. Also, because of the way a crockpot heats, the outside will be done so much faster than the center, your chicken will turn out try and not ideal if you start with frozen chicken. So throw it in the fridge the night before and you should be fine!
Absolutely! If you have a favorite homemade gravy recipe you can definitely use it here. You will want to have about 2 cups of gravy that you thin out with a little chicken broth and then pour it over the chicken to let it cook. See recipe notes above if you need to thicken it before serving.
Storage
If you have leftovers, you can put them in an airtight container and store in the fridge for up to 4 days. You can reheat in a saucepan over medium heat or in the microwave until warm.
