Homemade Milky Ways – make the classic Milky Way candy at home with just 5 ingredients! No baking required, so they are ready in no time.
When I was a kid Milky Way was my favorite candy. There was just something about that creamy, chocolate-y, nougat-y filling, with the gooey caramel and of course all the chocolate!
These homemade milky ways are even better than the original, and so darn easy to make! It is crazy how easy it can be to make candy at home.

I first made these in 2011, they were one of the first recipes I made for the blog. I remember giving them as teacher gifts to my son’s kindergarten teachers. They were a huge success, and everyone was surprised you could make them at home.
Well, fast forward 11 years, it is time these see the light of day again. They are so easy to make, but have been buried with horrible pictures and a poor written recipe for far too long. So trust me, these are a must make if you even kind of enjoy the store bought version!

What You’ll Need
- Milk Chocolate Chips
- Evaporated Milk
- Marshmallow Fluff
- Caramels
- Chocolate Almond Bark or Dipping Chocolate
That is it, just 5 ingredients is all it takes. I have used caramel bits as well as soft caramels that you have to unwrap. It really doesn’t matter what you use, you just need them to melt with evaporated milk to be nice and smooth.

How To Make Homemade Milky Ways
- Add chocolate chips and 3 Tablespoons of evaporated milk to a microwave safe bowl. Microwave for 45 seconds, remove and stir. If your chocolate isn’t melted, return to the oven and heat for 10 second intervals, stirring well after each time until the chocolate is completely melted.
- Stir in the marshmallow fluff until completely combined.
- Pour into an 8-inch square pan that is lined with parchment paper. Place in fridge to set up, while you melt the caramel.
- Place caramels and evaporated milk in a microwave safe bowl and heat for 1 minute. Remove and stir. Repeat with 10 second intervals, stirring after each time, until the caramel is completely melted and smooth.
- Pour caramel over the chocolate layer and place in the fridge for about 4 hours, or until they are completely set up.
- Using the parchment paper, lift the candy out of the baking dish, and place on a cutting board. Cut into squares.
- Melt almond bark, and using 2 forks, dip squares of candy in chocolate. Place on a lined baking sheet to set up.

Storage
Store these in an airtight container for up to a week. I like to store them in the fridge, so they stay firm. Depending on the temperature of your house, they can get a little soft if you leave them out. If you store in the fridge, let them sit out for about 10 minutes before serving.
The nice thing about making these at home is you can make them whatever size you want! You can make little bit sized ones, or you can make more full-sized candy bars.

Hi, Erin! Very enjoyable blog — the Milky Way mini's had nothing to do with the preceding opinion… 🙂

Milky Ways are one of my favorite candies. I'm not a chocolate fan, but when it's a vehicle for caramel, I can make an exception. Thanks for sharing the recipe. I'll be sure to keep an eye on the caramel (though I don't mind it chewy either!).
