- Ground Beef
- Onion
- Bell Peppers
- Mushrooms
- Provolone Cheese
- Ketchup – just a little goes a long way, you can’t taste that it is ketchup, it just gives a little tanginess.
- Worcestershire Sauce
- Salt & Pepper
- Beef Broth
- Cornstarch
- Hamburger Buns

How To Make Cheesesteak Sloppy Joes
- Brown Ground Beef. Add ground beef to a hot skillet, and brown for about 5 minutes, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon. It doesn’t need to be cooked through at this point, just starting to brown.
- Add Veggies. Add in the onions, green peppers and mushrooms. Sauté until the veggies are soft, about 5-7 minutes. Drain away any excess grease.
- Make Sauce. In a small bowl mix together beef broth and cornstarch. Stir in with beef mixture. Add ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, salt and pepper. Reduce heat, and simmer for 5 to 10 minutes, until the sauce thickens.
- Add Cheese. Stir in cheese and mix until melted.
- Serve. Scoop the mixture onto buns and serve immediately. You can stop with an additional slice of cheese if desired.

Recipe Tips & Suggestions
- Cheese. I like provolone best with these, but you can use any cheese you like. American is a classic choice with a cheesesteak.
- Veggies. You can use any combination of peppers, onions, and mushrooms that you like. They are not necessarily traditional, but they do work well in this sandwich.
- Storage. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container for up to 4 days. Reheat in the microwave until warmed though to serve.
Sloppy Joes are such a classic dinner. I love to use them to feed a crowd when we have people over. And these are no different. Everyone raves about them, they are easy and so good! You could keep them warm in the crock pot if you wanted to make them ahead of time too.

Wow, I just saw how long that comment was. Sorry about that. It’s 7am here and I’m already on my third cup of coffee…guess it’s kicked in 🙂
I like it hot, too, so hot peppers + sriracha = good cheesesteak sloppy joes!
I say make whatever works for you! I love cheese, but this sandwich has some really great flavors and I don’t think I would miss the cheese!
I do want to try real Philly Cheesesteak Sandwih in Philly too! Kind of far from here for sandwich, but I bet it’s really good. We have one popular place here but I think I should make one myself using this recipe. It shouldn’t be that hard…and it must be good if we use better quality stuff. Thanks for the recipe Erin!
I love philly steaks and sloppy joes. This recipe combines both I am sure I am going to love it!
No cheese? Aw, I am so sorry you don’t like it. But I love the sloppy joe version of these. I would eat a bowl of that filling all by itself!!
I love the idea of using ground beef for this … really creative and well done. 🙂 I also like your choice of cheeses. 🙂
Sounds perfect to me, Erin! My family would definitely love this~
Erin, this is a nice twist on the usual sloppy joes. These look delicious–I would love to come home to a crockpot of this.
My boys would love this! They are big cheese lovers like their mom though and would probably pile on the extra 🙂
