Braunschweiger Dip – Turn braunschweiger into a creamy dip that is great on crackers or bread and perfect for the center of your holiday spread.
This Braunschweiger Dip has been a staple in our family for years to have in the fridge during the holiday season. My Mother-in-Law introduced me to the recipe, as it was something she grew up with and made most of her life
If you are from the Mid-West than you probably grew up with Braunscheiger as part of your holidays. My grandpa used to actually just take slices of braunschweiger and put it on bread as a sandwich!
Then I met my husband and his mom makes this dip every year at the holidays, and the family just goes crazy for it!

- Depending on how your braunschweiger is packaged, make sure to remove the outside wrap. It is almost like a casing, but not quite. Either way, you don’t want to eat it.
- Next just mix everything together until it is smooth. You can use a mixer or a spatula, either works just find.
- Store in an air tight container for 24 hours before serving for the most flavor to develop.
Storage
You really want to let this dip sit for 24 hours before serving for the flavors to develop and come together. If you try it right after it is made and then again 24 hours later, it will taste completely different! Place in an airtight container and store in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.

My dad loves Braunschweiger, too…and I know he would love this dip. LOL, it seems quite a departure from your usual blog posts! Merry Christmas!
It is quite the departure! Hubby loves it, it is for the Holidays, so it got posted ๐
Hope you and your family have a great Christmas!
I couldn’t keep a snicker from exploding with the words, “I can’t stand this dish.” That’s a first. I love it. I’ve never heard of Braunschweiger before either, but I do know what liverwurst is and can’t stand the stuff. I’d be with you. But like the liver I cook for Hubby, I think it’s awesome that you make it for you husband even though you can’t stand it. Bravo! Happy new year.
I bet this would do well in my house…my mom used to buy sliced liverwurst and just cover it in yellow mustard. It was actually pretty delicious haha. Might have to give this one a shot if even the little guy is loving it!
lol…awesome. At least your husband is happy. I’m wondering if I should try it…hmmmm
Such a glowing recommendation! That’s hilarious Erin!!
At least I am honest ๐
LOL.. I could almost hear the disgust in your voice through the post on how much you dislike this dish. It’s sweet that you make it because your husband and son both like it… it must run in their genes. ๐ I bet my brother and mother would like this dip…. I may just make it with a few “spicy twists” and see what the family says. I’ll let you know if they are with your hubby or you after they taste it. ๐ Have a Very MERRY CHRISTMAS!! ~ Ramona
Love it when a chef starts out with “I hate this recipe…but”. I know I’ll adore it since I smash up liverwurst with some brandy and spices and pass it off, successfuly, as pate.. And might I add that amazingly enough this dip reminds me of the expensive stuff.
I’ve never heard of this either and I find it fabulous that you are bringing us a recipe you personally dont’ like. That’s great! Because tastes differ, of course.
Laughed at this post! I don’t like liverwurst, but my sis eats it like it was candy! I am going to forward this to her, because she can’t make a good cheeseball. (in her words, not mine!)
You crack me up! I have to say – I like liverwurst a LOT, but only Boarshead. I wouldn’t touch the stuff before that! I’m thinking I’d really like this one! Can we still be friends?
We can still be friends ๐
I married my husband knowing full well this would be in my house once a year!
