Cosmopolitan Drink – the classic cosmo drink recipe that is made with vodka, triple sec, cranberry juice, and freshly squeezed lime juice. Perfectly fruity, refreshing, and delicious.

Classic cocktails are classics for a reason.  The ingredients just work together and always will.  A traditional Lime Margarita is one of them.  You know what you are getting every time you order it, and it will always be good.

I love playing with new combinations to make fun drinks like this Pomegranate Gin & Tonic.  But there is something about having staples that you can fall back on.  And this cosmopolitan cocktail is one of those staple.

I first had a cosmo drink on a cruise a couple years ago.  I am not sure why I never tried one, but for some reason I just never had the opportunity. It has been on repeat ever since!

Cosmopolitan Cocktail Ingredients

How to Make a Cosmo

This cosmo recipe is super simple to make.  Using a cocktail shaker is the easiest way to combine the ingredients, but you can also just pour in a glass or liquid measuring cup and stir if you don’t have a shaker.

I like to fill a cocktail shaker with lots of ice and then add all of the ingredients.  Then you put the top on and shake like crazy.  Not only does this mix all of the ingredients together, but it gets the drink nice and cold.  Pour into a martini glass and garnish with lime if you have it.  The cosmo will be ice cold, refreshing, and absolutely delicious!

Cosmo cocktail is a classic drink. Such an easy recipe to make too.

The key to making a great cocktail is the quality of alcohol that you use.  You don’t need to use the most expensive vodka that you can find, but using a high quality one will make your drinks taste so much better!  A $5 bottle of vodka will taste bitter and pretty much just leave you with a hangover.  A good quality vodka will taste clean and crisp.

And as for the type of vodka to use in a cosmo, a citrus flavored vodka is best.  It just gives you so much more flavor.  A cosmo is not meant to be super sweet or taste like straight alcohol. You want to balance the flavors and a citrus vodka does this nicely.  A plain vodka can work if it is all you have, but trust me a citrus one will take this cosmopolitan cocktail to the next level!

Use fresh limes when it comes to the lime juice in cocktails.  You can really taste the different between fresh squeezed and the bottled stuff when you have a drink.  It does take a little bit of extra work, but if you have a citrus press you can get so much juice out of them! And it is definitely worth the extra couple minutes.

If you are getting ready for your next girls night or just want to enjoy a classic this cosmo drink recipe is all that you need!  It is fruity, not too sweet, a little tart, refreshing and delicious.
