Usually when you have a creamy pasta, you have heavy cream and/or butter involved. But not this time! This white sauce for pasta is made with skim milk, no butter, and just a little bit of cream cheese.  You can even use 1/3 less fat cream cheese!  Season with salt, pepper, and a little bit of Italian seasoning, and you have something that is delicious for the whole family.

What’s In Creamy Chicken Pasta

Be sure to scroll to the bottom of the post for the FULL PRINTABLE recipe card.

  • Spaghetti – I like to use a long pasta for this, but you really can use any shape you like
  • Chicken Breasts – chicken thighs also work well
  • Bacon
  • All-Purpose Flour
  • Olive Oil
  • Garlic
  • Cream Cheese
  • Skim Milk
  • Italian Seasoning
  • Salt & Pepper

My favorite white sauce for pasta is this Roasted Garlic Cream Sauce, but that one is a little heavy to eat very often. So this white chicken pasta is great because you can have any night of the week.

How To Make Creamy Chicken Pasta

  1. Cook Pasta. Bring a large pot of water to boil. Cook spaghetti according to the package directions. You can use any pasta you want here, I like something long like spaghetti to toss with the sauce.
  2. Cook Chicken. Toss chicken pieces with flour until well coated. And then cook them in a large skillet with a little oil until they are lightly browned. Add garlic and cook for 1 minute, just until you can start to smell it.
  3. Make Sauce. Stir in cream cheese and milk and mix until it is nice and smooth and the cheese is melted.
  4. Season. Next add in the Italian seasoning, salt and pepper, and let it simmer for 3-4 minutes until it starts to thicken, and the chicken is fully cooked.
  5. Toss Together. Mix in cooked spaghetti until it is all nice and coated by the sauce.
  6. Serve. Stir in the bacon and it is ready to serve.

Recipe Tips & Suggestions

  • Veggies. This pasta would be great to add in veggies as well. Add in cooked broccoli, bell peppers or even mushrooms would be a great idea!
  • Pasta. I usually like to use a long cut pasta when making a creamy sauce, but you really can use whatever shape you have and like.
  • Storage. Store leftover pasta in an airtight container for 3-4 days. You can reheat in the microwave and add a little milk if you want to loosen the sauce.
  • Creaminess. This uses low fat cream cheese and skim milk to make the sauce creamy. It isn’t the same as a Homemade Alfredo or a super rich sauce. If you want to use heavy cream you absolutely can.

Serving Suggestions

If you add veggies to the pasta you could consider this a complete meal, but I always like to serve something alongside.
