Ingredients for BLT Dip

Be sure to scroll to the bottom of the post for the FULL PRINTABLE recipe card.

  • Cream cheese — full fat works best for a smooth, rich base. Soften it before mixing for easiest blending.
  • Sour cream — lightens the base and adds a slight tang. Greek yogurt or mayo work as substitutes (see variations below).
  • Ranch dressing mix — gives the base its savory, herby flavor. Store-bought works great, or use homemade ranch seasoning mix.
  • Bacon — cooked and crumbled. Air fryer bacon is quick and gives you perfectly crispy pieces every time.
  • Roma tomatoes — Roma tomatoes are lower in moisture than other varieties, which keeps the dip from getting watery.
  • Shredded romaine lettuce — adds the classic BLT crunch on top.

How To Make BLT Dip

  1. Cook and crumble the bacon. Use your preferred method — stovetop, oven, or air fryer. Air fryer bacon is especially easy and hands-off. Let it cool, then chop or crumble into small pieces.
  2. Mix the base. Beat together the softened cream cheese and sour cream until smooth and creamy — a hand mixer makes this quick, or stir vigorously with a fork.
  3. Add the ranch mix. Stir in the ranch dressing mix until fully combined.
  4. Stir in half the toppings. Fold about half the chopped tomatoes and half the crumbled bacon into the cream cheese mixture.
  5. Spread and top. Transfer the mixture to a pie plate or shallow serving dish. Top with the shredded lettuce, remaining bacon, and remaining tomatoes.
  6. Serve. Pair with your favorite dippers and serve immediately, or refrigerate until ready.

Recipe Tips & Tricks

  • Soften the cream cheese first. Cold cream cheese won’t blend smoothly. Let it sit at room temperature for 30 minutes or microwave in 15-second intervals.
  • Use roma or grape tomatoes. High-moisture tomatoes like beefsteak will make the dip watery. Stick with romas, or squeeze out seeds and excess juice before adding.
  • Add lettuce right before serving. To keep it crisp and fresh, wait until the last minute to add the shredded romaine on top.
  • Make it a day ahead. The cream cheese base (without toppings) stores covered in the fridge for up to 24 hours. Add lettuce, bacon, and tomatoes just before serving.

Recipe Variations

  • Swap the sour cream. Greek yogurt or mayo both work well in place of sour cream. You need 1 cup total, so mix and match however you like (e.g., ½ cup sour cream + ½ cup mayo).
  • Make it lighter. Use turkey bacon and reduced-fat sour cream and cream cheese to lower the calories and fat. Avoid fat-free versions — they don’t blend as well.
  • Add cheese. Sprinkle about ¾ cup shredded cheddar over the top of the dip before adding the lettuce. It’s a natural BLT addition and adds extra richness.
  • Skip the ranch. If you prefer a plain cream cheese base, omit the ranch mix. The dip will be milder but still delicious.

Best Dippers for BLT Dip

This is where you can get really creative! If you want bread like the traditional sandwich you can use crostini or even just toasted bread triangles and use it more like a spread than a dip. Otherwise here are a few of my favorites.

  • Pretzel Thins
  • Tortilla Chips
  • Potato Chips
  • Crackers
  • Veggies – bell peppers, carrots, celery

Make Ahead & Storage

  • Make ahead: Prepare the cream cheese base up to 24 hours in advance. Cover tightly and refrigerate. Add the lettuce, tomatoes, and bacon right before serving to keep everything fresh and crisp.
  • Leftovers: Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. The lettuce will soften over time, so this is best eaten day-of.
  • Freezing: Not recommended. The cream cheese base will become grainy after freezing and thawing.
